Lift Your Spirits At Jacuzzi’s Holiday Comedy Festival
By Deirdre Bourdet‘Tis the season to be jolly, and this December 11th, Jacuzzi Family Vineyards is teaming up with Mutineer Magazine to bring even more laughter to wine country. An all-star lineup of standup comedians and special guests are flying into Sonoma for the red carpet-style Holiday Comedy Festival at Jacuzzi Family Vineyards. In keeping with Mutineer’s aim of bringing fine beverage culture to the mainstream, this event will feature spectacular cocktails from co-sponsor Don Roberto Tequila, nibbles by three of wine country’s finest food trucks, and bass-thumping holiday beats to keep your spirits bright. Because it’s also the season for giving, though, proceeds from this festival of merriment benefit A Child’s Right, a relief organization dedicated to providing clean water to children in impoverished urban areas around the world. Mutineer Magazine will be trekking to Nepal on behalf of this organization next year, to install water filtration systems that will provide clean drinking water to 25,000 children for the next ten years. In honor of this undertaking, all the red carpets at this event will be blue–along with the rest of the backdrop at Jacuzzi.
The mood of the evening will be anything but blue, though, thanks to the great comedic talent in store. Headliners Natasha Leggero, fresh off Last Comic Standing, and Bryan Callen of the original MadTV cast (as well as Entourage, The Hangover, etc.) are joined by Daryl Wright, Greg Wilson, Ben Gleib, and other special guests–including The Most Interesting Man In the World actor Jonathan Goldsmith, who will presumably put aside his Dos Equis in favor of the excellent Don Roberto Tequila being poured this evening.
Don Roberto is a relative newcomer to the US tequila market, though Casa Don Roberto has been crafting the liquor for over 150 years in Jalisco. Their agave plants are grown in volcanic soils, then baked in traditional ovens to impart a subtle smokiness to the finished product. Don Roberto’s sponsorship of the Comedy Festival gives you the chance to sample this premium tequila in a variety of seasonal cocktails, paired with tasty treats from some of wine country’s best food trucks.
Dim Sum Charlie’s and Mark’s the Spot have already established a cultish following in Napa for their organic dim sum and slow food served fast (respectively). The two have tag-teamed hungry crowds several times before for Napa’s Food Truck Friday events, which are hosted at Dim Sum Charlie’s’s First Street headquarters on the first Friday of every month. Don’t miss Mark’s the Spot’s delectable fried chicken slider or the French toast on a stick–both perfect complements for the cocktails of the evening. Be sure to also look for some of Dim Sum Charlie’s country-style shrimp dumplings, or “white fluffy” buns stuffed with an amazing anise-scented barbecue pork.
Sonoma-based Cochon Volant is a brand new food truck serving naturally raised, hormone-free barbecued meats, side dishes of local organic produce, and their own lemony, molasses-y, chili-spiked barbecue sauce. Since the flying pig has not yet taken to the air for its public debut, this Saturday is your chance to sneak preview the delectable-sounding wares.
Tickets for this rollicking night of comedy, cocktails and comida are accessibly priced at $35 per person, and available at the event’s website on a first-come, first-served basis. Luckily my tickets are already scored (thanks to the PR team), so I just need to practice my paparazzi poses for the blue carpet.
