Robledo Winery Celebrates Mexican Independence Day
Sonoma | CA
SONOMA, California (August 22, 2006) The Robledo Family Winery
will host their third annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration
on Saturday, September 16, 2006 from noon to 3 PM. The event,
one of the premier events of the harvest season, features traditional
Mexican food by family matriarch and executive chef Maria Robledo,
wine tasting, mariachi bands, folkloric dancers and the official
release of the 2004 Los Braceros Red Wine Blend.
Guests to the celebration will be welcomed by lively mariachi
music. Folkloric dancers will perform traditional Mexican folk
dances. Chef Maria Robledo's menu includes Flautas de Pollo en
Salsa de Tomatillo which will be paired with the 2005 Robledo
Family Pinot Blanc and Sopes de Carnitas con Pico de Gallo paired
with the 2002 Pinot Noir. The official release of Robledo Family
Winery's premier 2004 vintage of Los Braceros Red Blend features
a raffle for a rare large format bottle.
Los Braceros is a red blend featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
and Syrah. It is made entirely from grapes grown in the Sonoma
Valley, an area that benefited greatly from the historical Bracero
Program, which enabled thousands of Latino laborers to work in
California agriculture during World War II. "My great grandfather
Luis Robledo arrived in California as part of the Braceros program.",
explained winery president Vanessa Robledo. "The hard work
that his generation of Braceros put into the grapes and vines
of this area made possible the consolidation of the entire wine
industry in Napa and Sonoma."
In keeping with this Hispanic contribution to wine country, the
entire Robledo family has been chosen to act as Grand Marshalls
for this year's Vintage Festival parade in Sonoma. "It's
a wonderful honor,"says Reynaldo Robledo, "After years
of work in the industry, to be honored in this way by our peers
warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes."
Reynaldo Robledo, the family patriarch, came to the United States in 1968 to work in California vineyards. He spent three decades working until he was eventually managing hundreds of acres for some of the most prestigious wineries in California. Robledo slowly acquired land and planted his own vineyards, formed his own vineyard management company and finally opened his own family winery in 2003.
The Robledo Family Winery features the first tasting room and winery established by a Mexican migrant vineyard worker in all of North America. Tasting among the barrels sitting on the rough-hewn, hand-carved furniture imported from their home state of Michoacan, Mexico makes for a special experience unique to Wine Country.
This year's Mexican Independence Day celebration takes place
at Robledo Family Winery located at 21901 Bonness Rd. in Sonoma,
California on Saturday, September 16, 2006 from noon to 3 PM.
Maria Robledo will serve delicious Mexican delicacies paired with
Robledo wines for attendees. A mariachi band and folkloric dancers
will provide entertainment. Los Braceros, the new red wine blend
from Robledo Family Winery will be offered for sale.
Cost for the event is $35 per person ($25 for La Familia Wine Club Members) and includes all food, wine and entertainment. Tickets are limited so attendance requires an RSVP.
