A new feature for our newsletter - Recipes from the Wine Country!
The first recipe comes from Kathleen McGowan Inman, owner of Olivet Grange, a charming vacation rental in the Russian River Valley http://www.olivetgrange.com/
To recreate an authentic taste from the wine country try making this at home and let us know how it turns out.
Seville Orange Pudding
85g (1/3 c)
230g (1 c)
grated zest and
5 large eggs
60g (1/4 c)
1/2 pint (10 oz)
unsalted butter at room temperature
juice of 3 Seville Oranges
Preheat the oven to 350F
Butter a soufflé dish. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light in color and fluffy. Add the orange zest and juice and then the egg yolks, one at a time, beating well. The result will be a curdled mixture to which you add the milk and flour alternating until all is added.
Beat the egg whites until stiff and then fold into the orange mixture. Pour into the soufflé dish and place on a rack in a roasting tin and pour water half way up the side of the soufflé dish. Bake for around 50 minutes until nicely browned on top. Serve warm.
The result is a luscious sponge pudding that rises like a soufflé and forms its own custard at the bottom. Four Meyer's lemons may be substituted for the Seville oranges.

We received so many wonderful essays for our last contest! Here is the winner:
"My husband and I live in a desert that sometimes reaches temperatures of 115° in the shade. While we have beautiful sunshine year round, we do without the beauty of a flowing river. The e-mail announcement of your contest advertising River Village Resort put me into a trance. I'm a dreamer, sitting in an office, dreaming of another place and another way of life. Visions of a river calmly meandering through the forests, farms and vineyards of Northern California filled the screen of my mind. The backdrop from the movie "A Walk in the Clouds" played for me, and a soft breeze carried me to that gentle land where life is wonderful. What reverie!
Then the shrill ring of the phone broke the moment. Tell me -- is River Village Resort the place of my dreams? I would love to experience it."
Jackie Manogian, Arizona
Congratulations Jackie!! We hope you enjoy your stay at River Village Resort! http://www.rivervillageresort.com/
