Not sure I wholeheartedly agree on this one. Don't get me wrong, I routinely stop at V.Sattui when I travel upvalley, but it's usually for their fresh cream cheese artichoke dip. Their wines are average, but considering the tasting is only $5, I can't really complain. I usually go there when traveling with a big group and it's their first time wine tasting.

Round Pond - I've heard many great things about this place. And one day I will make it. But right I can't justify a $25 fee or more for one winery - I think my wallet would scream bloody murder!

Now I'm a bit bias because I'm a member at both places, but for my money you can not go wrong at either place.

V. Sattui- Yes it is a mad house on the weekends, but for good reason. Tastings are $5 and the sheer variety alone allows for a great intro to wine, but then they hit you with real quality. The Preston and Morsoli Cabs are every bit as good as the $100+ cult cabs around the valley and cost less than $50. The 2007 Carneros Pinot is amamzing. They make a tone of great Zins, the best of which are the Ramazotti, and the Black Sears. Great Port, Madera, Sav. Blancs, Chards, Sparkelers, they cover them all and do a great job with each, and god for bid you can afford to buy several, not just one. Not to mention the staff is awesome, friendly, and helpful. If you go into the main tasting room look for Mark and tell him Eric and Amy sent you. Oh and they have a pretty good deli too.

Round Pond- Wow, great wine. Cabs and Sav Blancs are wonderful. Amazing olive oil and vinegars. The Olive Oil tasting is one of the best non-wine activities in the whole valley. And again awesome passionate people, who want you to learn about the process.

If you are looking for a couple great places to spend some time in the Valley check these 2 out. You won't be disapointed.
