I am in the process of scheduling appointments for a trip to wine country in late October. One of my objectives this trip is to taste at 25% new wineries to us, which means that many I would like to visit are by appointment only, which is fine, I have no problem making appointments. In trying to schedule these visits, I was following a Wine Country map that indicated if the wineries were open to the public (red dot) or if they were open by appointment only (black dot).
There were two wineries that I contacted that I had to bite my tongue and not say what I was thinking.
The first was up on Spring Mountain. I was told that the tasting fee was $40.00 per person but waived if you purchased six bottles of wine. Not this sucker. Well, shut me up, and put a shotgun at the back of my head and pull the trigger! WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE YOUR WINE????
The second winery was on Diamond Mountain. When I called for an appointment I was told that there was no tasting fee, but the appointment fee was $100.00 which would apply to the wine you were going to purchase. Not this sucker. Well, shut me up, and put a shotgun at the back of my head and pull the trigger! WHAT IF I DON'T LIKE YOUR WINE?
I was as civil as I could be to these two wineries. I hope in this recession that they stay in business. I purchase what I consider a lot of wine for two people, but I don't know what these guys are thinking. I hope they can sell their HIGH end wines, but not to me with those tactics.
How about the rest of you??????
