Last night we opened a bottle of 2004 Robert Biale Zappa, which as the bottle says, is their proprietary red. Having enjoyed their Zinfandel for several years, this was a new Biale wine for us. It is a blend of Zinfandel, Sirah and Petit Syrah. The blends we are used to are primarily Cab based so it was fun to try this new one. The black fruit really comes through with a very smooth, peppery finish.

We paired this with a nice marinara sauce spaghetti with added Italian spices and just a pinch of red pepper flakes along with a side salad. Very nice. Mrs. Hawkeye had made some fudge for the holidays, so we finished the bottle with fudge! :-)

Having tired of of breaking Riedel wine glasses, we have purchased the Fusion crystal glasses from the Wine Enthusiast for our everyday use. We will save the Riedel for company.
