Good tidings to all and a tip to potentially allay some of those shipping costs.
Before you set out, check with your airline to see what sort of bonuses you may qualify for if you are a frequent flyer (or similarly named program) card holder. We just learned that we can get 3 "items" checked at no cost with our status...thats 3 each, and a 12-bottle wine carton would fit the size requirement. Cha-ching

Hi RichardSE.
We have shipped via FedEx several times and not had a problem. I don't know for sure, but perhaps it has to do with the individual outlet and whether or not they are licensed to ship wine at all. I do know that we have had to "shop around" for outlets that would ship it on occasion.

Dededode, I thought that FedEx doesn't ship wines for individuals directly.

We have used Buffalos Shipping Post on several occasions. They are located right in Napa.

Actually if you have your own Fed-Ex account you can address the boxes, and then log onto your account and print out the shipping labels and schedule a pick up at your hotel......the labels have to be from an actual fed-ex existing account and make sure in the reference you put "$AW" as fedex requires you reference it being a wine shipment or they won't take it.
You will save yourself a TON of money shipping on your own account vs paying someone else's rates

Hi jen. We have just purchased the wine shipping crates/boxes and then sent our purchases home via FedEx, but recent posts discussed the issue with that if you live in a state that has restrictions. If you carry the boxes to SF and ship from there its a little cheaper.

Hello all!
Before I leave tomorrow I wanted to ask how you all get your wonderful wine purchases home? Any recommendations?
