Last night we went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, one of the few in town that will allow you to bring your own wine. Each time I take a different wine to try and find something that the Owner/GM is not familiar with. Last night, I thought I had found the perfect one! I took a bottle of 2008 Spottswoode Estate Cabernet which is just possibly one of the best Cabs that has ever crossed my palate. My words would not do it justice, so here is the description written by Spottswoode. "An Estate Cabernet Sauvignon that consistently exudes elegant power, effusive blackberry fruit and spice, naturally refined tannins, and extraordinary color. It is lush and expressive in its youth and continues to evolve beautifully over time."
If the last part is even remotely accurate, we have one bottle left that if I can hold on to itfor 3 or 4 years, I shall look forward to revisiting this masterpiece.
Now to get back to the Owner/GM, when he came to the table, I said, "I believe that I have one tonight that you do not know, a 2008 Spottswoode Estate Cab." He said, "You will have to try again, I am very familiar with this wine and in fact, we have a 2003 on our wine menu." We poured him a glass and he tasted . . . his face lit up and he said, "WOW, that is a powerful wine, how much more do you have!"
The evening was fantastic, the food exquisite as always, and the filet went wonderfully with the Cab. Life is very, very good! Cheers.
