Thanks. I have seen Bennett Lane mentioned a couple of times as I was scanning the message boards.
Would love to run Boston someday and, as I'm in my mid-fifties, the qualifying times continue to go up!

Hi Ssala,

Welcome back. You might consider visiting Bennett Lane winery which is just north of calistoga on Hwy 128 a short distance. They have some fantastic cabs as well as a cab blend the market as "Maximus". I believe it is one of the best $35.00 bottles of wine in Napa.

If you have watched the movie, "Bottle Shock", a movie loosely based on the 1976 Paris tasting, the BS tour at Chateau Montelena is a fun thing to do and see where some of the movie was shot. With the entry price you receive a split of their chard and an autographed (by the real Bo Barrett) DVD of the movie.

Three years ago, our son ran the full marathon in March and qualified for the Boston.

Thanks. At first, I was thinking of closest and best near Calistoga. After seeing your comment I am being swayed back to my normal procedure of choosing 3 or 4 recommended wineries that are fairly close to each other, not necessarily to Calistoga. This will be our 4th trip to Napa and I love the idea of exploring the Howell Mountain wineries.

Howell Mountain is about 13 miles from Calistoga which has some incredible wineries. If you check one of the other discussions, Hawkeye and I have been discussing several Howell Mountain wineries with some incredible cabs.

If you want a winery on the valley floor near Calistoga, I'm going to have to think about it because the only ones I can think of off the top of my head would not be my first choice.

My wife and I are coming to Napa to run a half marathon in April. We have time to visit a couple of wineries on Saturday and another two or three on Sunday afternoon. I would love some suggestions (red wine only, but any varietal) for wineries closest to Calistoga. We will also be spending the next day in Sonoma and I have scoured those message boards for lots of great suggestions. Thank you, fine folks!
