Sounds good - I think we will try to visit the conglomerate as well. I do love it when a winery has a sense of humor - Dyer Straits is a great name

Keep up the good work Hawkeye! Keep on finding us new, great places to visit!! And when you open a tasting room in Tennessee, we will plan to come visit

Last night we opened a bottle of 2008 Dyer Howell Mountain Cab to have with dinner. This was an excellent Cab and I decided to check their website to see what the Dyer's said about it. Here is what it says, "Deep, concentrated garnet color. Cassis and wild cherry aromas with hints of fresh tobacco, sassafras, ocoa, and clove. Seductive, mouth watering and savory notes complement the fine tannins and lingering warmth on the palate".

It was a nice bold Cab with a wonderful silky smooth finish.

Dyer Straits Vineyard is one of those small wineries that I really enjoy finding. They make one varietal, naturally, a Cab. We visited with the owner, Dawnine Dyer last year on our trip and tasted in their home. It was a great experience. She makes and bottles her wine at von Strasser on Diamond Mountain, and is consulting winemaker at some other wineries.

Since our visit, Dyer has joined a tasting conglomerate in Calistoga, Up Valley Vintners at 1371 Lincoln Avenue. Dyer is joined by Barlow (another small producer which we enjoy) and 3 wineries that I have not tasted, Keneflic Ranch, Tofanelli and Zacherle. I think we will try and stop in sometime during our October trip.
