Hi Chris,

Napa Valley can become addictive. Be careful or you will have to join Napa Valley anonymous with the rest of us. I think Napa Valley is probably my third choice and most visited location. I do love the national parks in southern Utah or a river in Montana filled with Trout. Unfortunately, I had to give up the river because of health reasons.

We will all await your trip report. This helps us in planning for our own trips plus if you visited any wineries we recommended, it gives us some idea how you liked them and how you were treated. After all, the visit sometimes is as important as the wine.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

-Lee

Thanks for sharing, Hawkeye. It is great to hear you're doing well. We returned yesterday from our third trip to the Napa Valley in the last 13 months. Once again you guys played a large part in shaping our trip. Work has piled up like crazy and I have some critical stuff to finish before the holidays, but I will post a trip report as quickly as I can.

Chris

Hi Damombo,

I was beginning to think someone was having a party and forgot to invite me . . . not much happening on this Bard right now.

Our wine cooler will hold 300 + or - bottles. When Mrs Hawkeye put in the latest arrivals, she announced that is was full. I spent one whole day placing all the wines from each winery together. Was quite a task. I see that I have some wines that need to be consumed NOW.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Guess we will be adding them to the "to taste" list!

We spent the weekend organizing, sort of, the wine cellar/room/thing.

We had to somehow get the October trip bounty into the cooler. Not an easy task... Started by pulling all of the cabs that are in their prime drinking window to the front - discovered that we have 40 bottles that we should be drinking now! Darn, what a shame - gotta concentrate on Cabs for the next little while!!

One very sad note: as I was reaching to place a bottle in one last open spot, it slipped out of my hand and hit just wrong on another bottle - now the wine cellar/closet/thing smells quite authentic, just like the caves in Napa
Bummer....

Don't cry over spilled wine? HA! A whole lot a cryin' goin' on!!

Hi Guys . . . Have you all left town for Napa and forgot to invite me to go along? Long time since there has been a post here on the Message Board. I have even gotten so bored that I have been reading Trip Adviser and one recent post from Bart O'Brien caught my eye. Well, we visited O'Brien Winery several years ago so I sent him this private message.

"Hi Bart,
I hope you don't mind me sending you this personal note of reply from your Trip Advisory comment. My wife and I visited you many years ago, back when you were still leading the tours yourself. You had us hold hands (even though we were hardly teenagers) and you led us into a dark barn where there were candles burning and we had a seated tasting. I still remember the red "lingerie" bag you put over the wine we purchased. I remember the big "O" quite well.
You are so correct, there are so many smaller wineries to visit. I enjoy researching and ferreting out the small wineries (many times producing just one Cab) and building my itinerary, sometimes working on it for 3-4 months. These, in my opinion, are just as good, if not better than most of the big guys. That is the joy of Napa.
I am happy for you that evidently the wines have improved according to RP's ratings.
We have been coming to Napa Valley for many years, most of the time, 2 times each year. Unfortunately, because of open heart surgery, we will probably not make the trip this year but will have to wait until 2014. When we do, we will certainly put you back on the itinerary list.
I comment a lot on the NapaValley.com message board."

I am feeling much better and was told Thursday that I could drive again so I AM FREE, I AM FREE AT LAST! Also was given an early Christmas present when they tol me that I could quit taking insulin. What a relief that was!

Hope you are all doing well.

-Hawkeye
