Howdy Hawkeye!

We are around, just getting into the swing of things for 2013. Continuing to work on painting and so forth...

I do get to start planning two wine trips - one will be to Paso Robles at the end of April (we have a family wedding to go to in Visalia, CA) and the other to Napa/Sonoma at the end of May. So I'm a happy planner!

We will only have one day to wine explore in Paso Robles - we will be with all of my husband's siblings and spouses, and they aren't as wine wacky as we are, so I have to plan other activities, too.

The Napa trip will be our usual 2 days in Napa Valley and 2 days in Sonoma county. Three of our crowd will be visiting from New Zealand - and this will be a short stop on their way to an Alaskan cruise - so I don't imagine that they will be buying any wine. The other couple is from Houston, and they might make a few purchases. We are still recovering from our overindulging in October, so I don't know how much we will be buying, but it's to soon to tell!!

Cheers! and I'll try to come up with something interesting to post so that you aren't too lonely

I keep checking the Napa Message Board and there is no one there! Did you all leave for Napa Valley and forgot to tell me?

We have friends visiting tomorrow night from Illinois and we will take them to St. John's Restaurant. They were with us on our wine trip in October. Until then, they had not had much wine except for the wines made in Iowa and Illinois. Let me preface the following with this statement, "I don't believe I am a wine snob" like the Brit in Bottle Shock, BUT the wines made in those states that I have had are not the finest in the world. For me, they are too sweet with not much substance. Since our trip, they have ordered cases of Bennett Lane Maximus and Charnu Red Dye. I think they caught the bug.

I will be taking 3 bottles of Cab, a 2008 Paradigm, a 2006 Bennett Lane and a 2006 Harris Jake's Vineyard. This will be the first bottle of Paradigm that I have opened.

I will be going to Nashville for the weekend to attend our annual daylily symposium. This will be the first trip since my surgery. I will have a problem with the food, but I think the trip will be good for me.

Life is very, very good.

-Lee (Hawkeye)
