Damombo,

Sorry, I get seasick! (That was a nice way to tell you "not a chance"). However, it you want to come to Chattanooga, I will give you the normal tasting amount.

We did taste in the cask room. It was a lovely, relaxed, fun tasting. Two hosts and us. Lots of nice conversation and a nice array of very good wines. I'm really curious about the 2001 and 2004 we brought the kids - can't wait to hear their impressions.
I have a suggestion for you and your 1996 Cab for a special occasion - how about you bring it to Texas and share it with us!! We'll even take you out on the boat!

Hi Damombo,

At least you got to Heaven one day! I believe that Hall St. Helena pours the same wines as in their cave tour in Rutherford. Did you find any difference?

We have not been to Madrigal. Guess we will have to put it on our itinerary for our next trip, whenever that is. I am hoping next March.

I have always enjoyed Burgess wines. Did you taste in the cask room. We have a Burgess 1996 Cab that we are saving for a special occasion.

Thanks for your review.

We had only one quick day in Napa Valley (on our way to a family reunion in central CA)

We went to the Cabernet Cook Off at Hall St. Helena - what a treat! There were 13 chefs/restaurants participating and each one came up with a "bite" to pair with the Hall Cab. So many creative and delicious dishes! And the Hall wines were flowing - so a delightful way to spend a morning in Napa Valley. We are already counting on attending next year's Cookoff.

From Hall, we dropped by Madrigal. They would prefer that you make an appointment, but we were way early for our appointment with Burgess, so we took a chance that Madrigal wouldn't turn us away. Quite the contrary, they were very welcoming. Chris Madrigal also happened to be there, so he chatted with us and took us back for an impromptu barrel tasting and a tasting of his olive oil! Another serendipitous moment in wine country After years of enjoying their wines, we went ahead and joined their club.

I was worried that we would now be late for our Burgess appointment, but we arrived right on time - the drive from Madrigal only took about 10 minutes, not the nearly 30 I was thinking... They have a spectacular view, which we enjoyed for while before we went in to taste wines. The hosts were enjoying the view with us and told us a bit about Burgess. We tasted their wines and sent home a mixed case of cab, merlot and syrah. Also included in that case were a 2001 and 2004 Cab - for our kids, since those were their graduation dates (from high school). Sort of a fun commemoration - hopefully the wines will be as terrific as I think they might be (judging from the recent Burgess Cabs)

Next stop was a late lunch/early dinner at Cindy's Backstreet Cafe before the fabulous drive over the Oakville Grade to a club event a Ledson.

Ledson held a barrel tasting party on their front drive. I think there were 6-7 barrels that we were able to sample. Then everyone was invited into the castle to taste pretty much anything and everything that they had - a pretty fabulous evening was had by all!

So that was our one day - absolutely perfect for us, and now we are looking forward to our trip at the end of May!
