I'm here Hawkeye, just a bit busy to post. I was in the Bay Area at the end of April for business, but I had some time to stop by to visit a few friends in Napa. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time for winery visits, so I only went to Silverado and Robert Craig (I'm a GEMs member, too, but it happens that I'm members of these two wine clubs).

Rachel Miller at Robert Craig was great as usual and I got to taste a couple of wines I hadn't tasted before. I ended up getting several bottles of library wines from 2004 -- the Affinity and Howell Mountain cabs. Since I like cabs with some age and since I like Robert Craig wines, I thought those were good buys.

Nick at Silverado wasn't in but several people there were great at making me feel welcome. I ended up getting a bunch of boxes of their chocolate merlot balls (my wife requires that I bring them back whenever she's not with me in Napa). I also tasted several new wines including their sauterne style wine and their current vintages of Fantasia meritage and Solo. All the wines were very good, but those three stood out for me.

It might be a while before I'm in Napa again. Probably not until next January.

Take care everyone!

Well shucks, I just posted this in the Dining forum… goofy me. But I suppose I'll go ahead and post it here, too, since it seems like it's just you and yes and me

Yep, we are heading to California next week! We will only have one day in Napa, because we are really going to Paso Robles to meet some friends. But since we are flying into Oakland, we couldn't be so close to Napa and not go by! So we are coming early in order to swing by…
We are planning to visit Reynolds Family, Hunnicutt, Vineyard 29, Clif Family, Chappellet, and Hall St. Helena. We fly in on Wednesday and will arrive in Napa with just enough time to get to a last-of-the-day appointment at Reynolds Family. We tried to taste there a few years ago - had an appointment made and all that jazz, but that was the year my husband's knee surgery turned into a 6 month ordeal, and we had to cancel the trip.

Then Thursday will be a "GEMS of Napa Valley" day. In case you are wondering, the wineries participating in the Gems of Napa Valley are:
Chappellet Vineyard
HALL Rutherford
Ladera Vineyards
Robert Craig Winery
Silverado Vineyards
Robert Biale Vineyards
Vineyard 29

We've been to Biale, or course, and to Ladera and Silverado, so we are spending the day on the others. With the exception of Clif Family - I added them because we will be having lunch in St. Helena but need to be at our Chappellet appointment by 3:00. Gotta take location and drive times into consideration!!

So I'll be sure to post our impressions of all of these places. I'll try to be quick about it, but our daughter will be defending her thesis for her PhD right as we get back, so I might be distracted just a bit.

damombo and yesilovewine it is good to know that you are still around. Damombo, I know you are headed to Napa soon, how about an itinerary?
