I don't know how familiar you are with how the tours work. Unless its a private tour that you initiate, you will be with a random group of people who may, or may not, share your taste in wine. Usually, the tours are guided by a majority rules system, so they go where the most people want and stay as long as the most people want at each place.
If you like to have control over your winery visits, then a van-style tour is not what you want to do.
There are options such as the companies that will drive you around in your vehicle which may be more appealing.
We always just drive ourselves, being very thoughtful about how much we stop and how we taste ( usually sharing tastes and frequently spitting) because its important to us to be able to leave when we are ready and to have the option of stopping somewhere interesting at a moment's notice.
The thing about the balloons which a lot of people don't know is that 1) they are expensive and 2) many if not all of the options leave VERY early in the morning, like in around daybreak!

Planning first time visit durring the Crush weekend.

A friend recommended the Platypus tour but after browsing through the website for the crush event i am no quite sure if this would be best thing. On one hand it looks like a great idea as a) don't have to drive and b) there are multiple tours scheduled.

Anyone out there have any advice?

Also, any feedback on the hot air balloon ride would be most welcomed.
