Well I'll try....
Let's see...Beginning at the northern end of Sonoma Valley, Ledson would be a good first stop for WOW factor and variety of wines to taste. They make a nice fruit-forward Sauv Blanc, and several good reds...I happen to like their Barbera best, I think. They also have a charuterie/deli so if you need food, its a good stop.
Paradise Ridge has a nice tasting room in Kenwood, and they make some of our favorite Red- the Rockpile Cab and the Hoenselaars Vyd wines.
Deerfield Ranch has their tastings in the cave- I haven't been there but Damombo has so if she pipes in you can get her take on that.
Imagery is a good place for unusual varietals, but can get very crowded. I will say, though, that the Wow Oui is worth standing in line for ( but sells out quickly). Imagery has interesting grounds as well as a great collection of wine label art- which they comission.
Just down the road is BR Cohn, and you could get your Olive Oil tasting there as well as wine. Their wines aren't my favorites, but folks say I should taste the reserves, which I have yet to do. If you like the Doobie Bros, you'll probably like it there, though.
So that's a few to get you started. If you need a map for referencing locations, try using the one on sonomawine.com. And you may find some other wineries of interest on their list, so check that as well. They allow you to search by grape which is helpful if you have something specific in mind.
Hope this helps without overwhelming you.

I'm thinking we'll come back South on HWY 12 through Sonoma. I myself like white fruity wines --my husband doesn't really have a preference. Thanks for any help you give!

Hi and welcome.
We are always full of ideas around here! Its what makes this such a fun place
What kind of wine do you like? That would help with making suggestions.
Also, what route do you have in mind for your return?

My husband and I are visiting San Fran for 2 days in a few weekends. On Sunday a.m. we are going to drive to the Armstrong Redwood SNR. We would like to visit some wineries on the way back to San Francisco. Originally we were going to go to Napa (and even the Round Pond Olive Oil Estate), but now we are thinking that will be out of our way. And recommendations for the Sonoma area? Thanks!
