I went Sunday afternoon to find that there were more of them behind the tasting tables than there were those of us on this side of the tables.

That was great for me. I had pretty much exclusive access to just about anything I wanted to taste. So, maybe those higher priced events do have an advantage. They keep folks away.

I am now re-thinking the entire notion of price. I am liking the higher prices. Keeps the crowds way down.

We just went to taste on Sunday at the Wine Expo. There was plenty of space and we didn't have to wait for any tastings at all.

It could have been because we went on Sunday, the last day, but they also had a much larger and roomier layout than last year.

There were booths from local restaurants and food vendors as well which was nice as that gave us something to soak up the wine! They had everything from specialty breads to lobster bisque to extraordinary desserts, all free with the entry cost.

With about forty vineyards pouring, that makes the tasting fees around a dollar a winery to taste. I don't think that's much considering what it costs in most wine countries for a single vineyard tasting.

All in all we had a great time!

Well tastings at just one winery in our area runs from $5 per person to $12 per person, so $45 for as many wineries that will be there sounds okay to me.

I'll have to report back after going. I'll be there on Sunday so will get back to the message boards with a report.

These guys must be crazy to charge $45 to go to an overcrowded tasting room. Did you go last year? I did and left within a half an hour feeling ripped off.

I couldn't even get close to a tasting table.

Me? I'm saving my money for Vintage VA ($25), or VA Wine Festival ($25), or the Va Wine Showcase ($30).

Save your money and head off to a quiet tasting room and spend your $45 on some Virginia Wines instead of lining the pockets of a promoter.

If anyone is in the Richmond area in Central Virginia the weekend of February 27, 2009 this would be a great chance to taste all that the state of Virginia has to offer for wines! Taste our Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, and other varietals and blends!

There will be over 50 wineries participating with over 300 wines.

Some of the area's hottest restaurants will also be participating.

The ticket cost is different according to the day's tastings and range from $20 to $25 to $45 and for some grand tastings $70 per person.

You can order tickets or find out more about the Virginia Wine Expo at

See you there!
