Hey Pooh----I've been looking for fun things to do in Sonoma. I'm taking a group of 14 this fall. All are wine lovers, but they also want to do other things. One thing I'm checking into is a group segway tour in Healdsburg. I've been reading up on them in general and spoke with the owner of the business in Healdsburg. I think she has me convinced---it sounds like a blast. We've also visited Viansa in the past. As Yesilovewine said, the view of the wetlands is beautiful. Ferrari-Carano has gorgeous grounds/gardens--we wandered around for a while after tasting. BR Cohn was fun, lots of stuff on the Doobies. In fact, this Sept is the 25th anniversary of their yearly music festival and has been expanded to 4 days. Our group will be there on one of those days. We also usually do some bike riding, and may do some kayaking this year. It is just so beautiful out there. That, and all the wonderful (seems like an understatement) wines makes this an irresistible trip.

Hiya Pooh!
Sonoma is a really big county, so the diversity provides lots of opportunities. For example, Armstrong Redwoods Preserve is a state park over near Guerneville where they have lots of trails. The Luther Burbank gardens and the Luther Burbank experiment farm showcase the flowers and plants that he created through his horticulture research in the area...he was a really famous guy and created the "Shasta Daisy" and did a bunch of work with apples which were a major crop in this area.
The Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa is pretty cool, especially if you are a fan of "Peanuts".
The Jack London State Park in Sonoma Valley is neat- its what he called the "Beauty Ranch" and has a museum that contains many first editions and original artwork from his books.
If you like water sport, there is lots of activity on the Russian River, but it may be the wrong time of year for that in October! Kayaking and Canoeing are big there in the summer...lots of resorts for the San Fran crowd to go in the summer.
Then there is the whole coastal thing...Bodega Bay and Bodega Head are really pretty.
There is a guy who operates Segway tours out of Sonoma (town), if that appeals to you.
Then, if you are into history there is tons of Mission era history in Sonoma ( town, again). The old fort is right there in town, and Cline winery has a museum of Mission models which is pretty interesting.
Across the street, at Viansa winery, they have created a wetlands which is very cool. Stunning views from there...lots of weddings are held there because of the view. They also have a deli and offer olive oil tastings.
Those are the things I'm familiar with but I'm sure there is more.
Oh, I forgot the hot air balloon rides...I've seen them in the sky but don't know more than that.

Did you have something particular in mind, or a certain part of the county? I guess I should have asked that first...!
