My wife and I stayed for four nights in the French Room, while my partner and his wife stayed in the Asti Room in late May/early June. Both rooms were decorated with many antiques, king sized beds, fresh linens, modern electronics, and huge bathrooms--ours also had a jacuzzi tub for the adventurous, and a totally private terrace which caught a lot of sun.

Jerry and Harold are the consummate hosts, and Jerry is a most gregarious concierge/chef. His breakfasts each morning were at a time of our choosing, and were always accompanied with fresh fruit, coffee and juice in whatever quantity you wanted. His menu selections and preparations were excellent.

We had cocktails/wine and cheeses/fruit every evening with our hosts and their doggies(3) before we left for dinner. Interesting conversations on the terrace overlooking the pool with lots of sun and camaraderie.

Jerry's recommendations for winery tours were right-on, and mentioning his and the villa's name relieved us of some tasting fees.

We used Jerry's suggestions for our dinner sites, and found three to be excellent (Zin, Cena Luna and Dry Creek Kitchen), while we must have hit Willi's on an off night. You should get Jerry's dinner recommndations before you go to Sonoma, and make your reservations on the phone or on-line, or you probably will have to wait for a table if Healdsburg is busy.

Overall, our experience with Jerry, Harold, and Bella Villa Messina was delightful, and we highly recommend anyone to stay there. You will enjoy your visit.

We stayed for our 20th anniversary and loved the place. The house is located with a great view, the rooms are very nice, and the place is immaculate. We had the Asti room for three nights, and wished we had booked it for more time.

Jerry and Harold had us down for cocktail hour and provided us with some of the local cheeses and vegetables, along with wine. They made us feel like theyd been looking forward to our stay for a year. We sat on the patio in the sunshine overlooking the valleys and their llamas, and enjoyed the company.

Jerry and Harold have been in the area for a long time, and can give the history of the region and various wineries. His restaurant recommendations were spot on (Willies, Zin, Luna Cena). He also gave us a few wineries to see that were also perfect. He even told us which wineries to stop at on our way down to Napa after leaving Healdsburg! Those too were good.

Breakfast is whenever we wanted it, maybe because we were the only guests, and what a spread it was! There is a refrigerator with bottled water upstairs, next to two drawers full of movies to watch in the room. The room was furnished nicely with antiques, but not overly done. And the crisp white linens on the bed and the abundance of pillows made the perfect end to perfect days.

Having limited experience with B&Bs, I had some reservations about staying here. But after our stay, Im afraid that other B&Bs wont measure up to this place.

We stayed 3 nights in the French room in mid-June to celebrate our 14th anniversary. This was our first stay at a B&B and being relatively young compared to the other guests we were slightly apprehensive. To say our stay was memorable would be an understatement. We arrived with a plan of just having fun and Jerry ensured that we did. As for the tangible things: the house is set magnificently on top of the hill with a view of all 3 valleys, the room is beautiful, bed extremely comfortable, and the bathroom with Jacuzzi tub particularly enjoyable (we loved the candles around the tub which gave the room the perfect ambience). Breakfast is served whenever you happen to get up and is delicious. If you want to be left alone for some private time together you are not bothered at all. As for the intangibles: Jerry and Harold are what all hosts should be they make you instantly welcome and comfortable. We spent more time with Jerry and the best description I can give of him is that he is a catalyst. If you know what you want to do he helps you plan it, if you dont know what you want to do he helps you find something youll love, and if youre already having fun he makes it better. It was like having a personal guide who you didnt have to take along with you. He obviously loves hosting and meeting new people. Most places we went knew Jerry and Harold and tastings were often free or service a step above because of it. Both winery and dining recommendations were fantastic and Jerry made our reservations the second we asked. There are small touches to numerous to list which make this place and its hosts special. We look forward to returning as often as we can.
