A Checklist For Your
Resolution Party

Making a resolution party part of your holiday celebration can be as easy or
as elaborate as you wish. Here’s a quick checklist of things to remember and consider:

1. SET THE DATE
Calendars fill up quickly around the holidays and especially as you get closer to New Year’s Eve. Pick a date early and even consider sending a “save the date” postcard to make sure people can plan to attend.

2. CHOOSE YOUR GUESTS
“Know your audience” is good advice. Be sure to invite enough people who you know will be enthusiastic about resolution writing. They will help you cajole and convince those who may, for whatever reason, resist the idea.

3. MAKE THE SHOPPING LIST
The basic list for the resolution letter writing is pretty simple:
• Writing paper
• Envelopes
• Pens
• Clipboards or some kind of hard surface guests can write on without all sitting around a table.
Depending on your own preferences for the party, the choices you make in selecting each of these items can be basic or more elaborate. For example, if you wanted to incorporate a gift for your guests, you might consider giving a special pen or personalized stationery to each guest to write their letters.

4. SET THE MOOD
It’s a party! Be festive and don’t make the resolution writ-ing portion too serious. Make sure everyone has a glass of sparkling wine or other suitable beverage, has had time to mingle, has something to eat and is comfortable.

5. CHAMPION THE CAUSE
Some people are not going to jump at the chance to do this— be the evangelist! Be positive! Enlist other friends both before and at the party to talk up the idea.

6. SET THE RIGHT EXAMPLE
No one is going to want to sit down and write their thoughts and dreams for the new year if you’re squeamish about it! Do it with enthusiasm! Do it with soul!

7. DON’T FORGET…
Follow through is the key to making this a successful holiday tradition. With that in mind, make sure that you:
• Write your own resolution letter
• Keep the letters in a safe place through the year
• Invite guests who wrote letters to next year’s party
• Mail the letters just before the upcoming party
