Thom Elkjer has written about wine and wine country for more than a decade, including feature contributions to Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, Wine Country Living, VINE Napa Valley, and WINE International in addition to numerous other publications. He judges for major international wine competitions in the U.S., and his frequent travels have taken him to more than a dozen other wine-producing nations in the northern and southern hemispheres. Elkjer is also founder and host of BD Forum: Biodynamics in American Wine, an annual event dedicated to advancing sustainably superb viticulture in the U.S..
A career author, Elkjer’s latest book is “Beautiful Wineries” (Ten Speed), designed by Jennifer Barry and featuring the work of photographer Charles O’Rear. Previous titles include “True to Our Roots” (Bloomberg Media), “Escape to the Wine Country” (Fodor’s) and “Adventures in Wine” (Travelers Tales). He has also published numerous travel essays, book reviews and an award-winning novel, “Hook, Line and Murder.” He lives with his wife, fine art painter Antoinette von Grone, among the vineyards of Anderson Valley in Northern California.
