It’s official: Thanks to the addition of yet another stellar eatery – Diavola Pizzeria-Salumeria
– from the mega talented Dino Bugica, Alexander Valley’s miniscule Geyserville may just be wine country’s newest foodie mecca. Turns out the master salumist – who’s already conquered cuisine more haute with his highly regarded Taverna Santi
– wanted to create more casual fare in the vein of la cucina povera
(literally, Italian peasant cuisine), comprised of a deliciously straightforward collection of panini, pizzas, salads and, yes, house cured salumi.
That Dino’s done it all in fabulous style next door to his own Santi in the heart of downtown Geyserville (population 3,485) means north Sonoma County has officially arrived where top notch food and wine are concerned. Sit down for lunch or dinner service seven days a week, or take your grub to go; thanks to the spot’s deli case, you can enjoy Diavola’s traditional Italian cuisine at home or outdoors at your favorite area winery. If you DO dine in, be sure to nab a pizza from the wood-burning oven (a zucchini flower and buffalo mozzarella “Margherita” is a fav, and rumor has it Dino fired a to-die-for truffle-and-chanterelle-studded pie called “Chef’s Last Supper” not long ago), and wash it down with a warm, spicy local or Italian red. ; Andiamo Diavola!
