Richard Loft, owner/operator of Napa Valley Fly Guides will accompany you to our local Putah Creek for a hands-on introduction to the art and sport of fly-fishing. He will meet you at Monticello Dam and you will follow him to fishing spots on the creek. He will outfit you with waders & boots and all necessary gear. He will teach you about gear, reading water, the roll cast, the downstream water-loaded cast, how to rig a nymphing rod and what flies to choose. This offering is a great starting point for those interested in fly-fishing or those who want to give it a try. Fly-fishing is a life journey and it will take you as far as you want to go.

Putah Creek, just below Lake Berryessa, is a 4.5 mile stretch of clean, cold fresh water for the now native Rainbow Trout in the recently designated, Snow Mountain Lake Berryessa National Monument.
Napa Valley Fly Guides has partnered with Putah Creek Trout and the Heritage Wild Trout Program since 2008 to be a steward of this Northern California river by doing annual California Coastal Clean-Ups, and Putah Creek Surveys and Habitat Restoration on a regular basis.

Your guide, Richard Loft, has been an avid fisherman all his life, starting at age 10 in West Covina, CA. He loved fishing so much that, before he had his drivers license, he would hitchhike up to Silverwood Lake or into Azusa Canyon, to fish for the day.

Richard has been an avid fisherman all his life, starting at age 10 in West Covina, CA. He has easily logged thousands of hours fly fishing on his favorite local river–Putah Creek. He has also fished a few hundred hours on the Yuba River in Marysville, the Truckee, and the Little Truckee, the Feather the American, the Lower Sac, the East Walker, the East Carson, the Pit, Hat Creek, and the Stanislaus River. He started Napa Valley Fly Guides in 2013 and has been teaching others fly-fishing ever since.
All reservations must be booked in advance with a minimum of 48 hours' notice. There is no refund for cancellations fewer than 3 days in advance. Pescatarian options are available. Please indicate any food restrictions when booking. All refunds issued will have the credit card processing fees removed from the refund total. This fee is approximately 3% of the purchase price and is non-refundable.
