What a wonderful experience with a group of friends. You really get an inside look at the winemaking process from start to finish. The tour is both informative and intimate and our host John Daniels was a perfect blend of chill while at the same time giving the necessary educational tidbits. I really enjoyed the ’07 Cabernet – where else do you get to taste a Cab from this vintage year at an amazing price point!? And the pairings were on point – love that they let you play around with the flavor profiles on your own. Definitely telling my friends about this one!

I love wine tasting with friends, and always prefer to schedule a tasting so we can really interact with each other while enjoying the wine. Thanks to our host John, and the delicious red wines, this private tasting experience was magnificent! I loved the food and wine pairings, the personal tour, and the ambiance in the wine cave was really relaxing. It was a little rainy the day we went, but I look forward to going back in the summer and playing bocce. This is definitely a place I’ll be spending more time at.

There’s something about walking into a wine cave that just… cool. I mean, it is cool inside (58 degrees year-round, so bring a light jacket), but the experience is cool as well–all that wine in all those barrels, lining the sides of the cave like a gauntlet of good times ahead. Our super-friendly host, John, was really into showing us a great time, while at the same time giving us quite the education on wines, wine caves, and wine pairing. And the setting during our wine paring experience was King Arthur-like: huge wooden table, high-backed chairs, candles everywhere, chandeliers. Equal to the ambiance was the wine: We tasted four or five of their best wines, each paired with a small bite that was carefully chosen by John. It was by far the highlight of our trip, and hugely recommended.

I got invited to do this experience and was so excited, I researched what to wear – so comfortable shoes and layers, everyone. It was a private wine tasting experience that was so much more than just that. We got to taste really great wines paired with a plate of hand-picked goodies in a Cave! John our host was very informative he went over a variety of information about the winery, the vineyards, and my favorite part how the cave was built. Which was really interesting, I won’t spoil it for anyone but WOW dynamite! I had a great time hanging out with friends, taking pictures on my new phone and mostly trying a ’07 cab, so smooth! I would definitely recommend this experience, you get a bit of everything great wine, a great host, delicious hand-picked small bites, and you learn something. I really want to go back and do it all over again. Thank You, John, for such a memorable wine tasting experience!

At the sake of sounding spoiled, I’ve done more than a couple cave tours and tastings. I should’ve known that Dutch Henry would roll out their best hospitality and the comfortable charm that is ubiquitous when visiting their property. From start to finish, Josh was the kind of guy I wanted to hang out with and drink some(really great) wine…and that I did! Beginning with a splash or two in the main tasting room, we go the low down on the beginnings of this family owned winery. Out to the vineyards we went, touring the vines, checking out the bocce courts and meandering through the olive groves, until we arrived at the cave doors. Once inside(glasses generously refilled) we got a tour of the inner workings, literally! A cool tour of benefits of having a cave on site, tastings of some futures that led us all to a well lit room waiting for our next course. They nailed the ambiance. Warm lighting, comfortable chairs, a full plate of treats and 4 glasses waiting while jazz playing in the background. Josh led us through a thorough and thoughtful tasting of food and wine pairings. Pointing out nuances to look for, offering revisits of some favorites and convivial conversation. It’s what we all look for in a wine country experience; personal, delightful, informative and delicious.

We had an amazing time at the Dutch Henry Subterranean Wine and Food Pairing yesterday. Our host, John, was so much fun! It was our first time at Dutch Henry and it was such a welcoming laid back vibe, very different from some of the other experiences we’ve had here in the valley. The cave was beautiful and the wines were paired with some fabulous bites. I was most impressed with the smoked salmon pairing; it was definitely not something I would have ever thought about pairing with a red wine. Our entire group really enjoyed the wines, and the 2007 Estate Cabernet and 2011 Chafen Family Syrah were standouts.
Our group appreciated John being available to answer our questions, but also giving us the space to talk amongst ourselves.
We enjoyed spending some time at the bocce ball court following our wine and food pairing. Our only regret, we wish we would have joined the wine club because I think we’re going to go through the case of wine we purchased too quickly! We can’t wait to come back, and will definitely join the wine club next time.
Thanks, John!
