Want to be a Napa Valley winemaker for a day? Spend a couple of hours following the lead of an expert guide and learn the art of blending three different red wine varietals into your own own custom wine. In a fun and relaxed environment, wine lovers of all levels will have a rare opportunity to learn the techniques and process of bringing together different wine varietals to create your own custom blend. As you blend (and of course taste), you can compare your wine with Hess’ signature Lion Tamer Red Blend. Once your masterpiece is ready, you will bottle the wine, add your own custom label and finally cork the bottle so you can take home your own special blend that same day.
Lion Tamer Red Blend
The experience begins with a tasting of Hess’ signature Lion Tamer Red Blend to understand how a world-class blend tastes and a brief lesson on the history and process of blending wine varietals.
Make sure to ask your guide what varietals comprise the Lion Tamer blend.
Create Your Own Custom Wine
Guests will blend combinations of each varietal into a glass and then taste. This process is repeated until you have your own future-award-winning blend.
Your guide is available to share information about the wine, tips on the blending process, and secrets used by Hess winemakers.
Bottle, Label and Cork Your Wine
After your blend is perfected, guests will bottle their wine, create a custom label, and add a cork to take it home with you.
Create a blind tasting competition with your friends to see whose blend is voted the best.

Your Host: The Hess Collection Winery
It takes vision to look 30 years into the future and knows that high on Mount Veeder would be home to some of Napa Valley’s best Cabernet Sauvignon. Mount Veeder Vineyards have the ideal combination of soils and microclimates to produce wine grapes of distinctive character. The Hess Collection winery is part of a historic site where wine was first produced in the 1860s, in a native stone building hewn by masons in 1903. The original stone structure is now joined by The Hess Art Collection, a world-class showcase of contemporary art. Considered by ARTnews Magazine to be one of the top 200 in the world.
