Divas Uncorked Toast to Their Own Chardonnay
Boston | Mass
(Boston, Mass..September 7, 2006) - As part of their continual
quest to make wine more approachable to women and people of color
by breaking down the intimidating image of the wine world, the
ten "sisters who sip" of Divas Uncorked, Inc. have partnered with
California's Mendocino Wine Company to create a 2005 Mendocino
County Divas Uncorked Chardonnay. With a suggested retail price
of $12.99 and an "uncorked" bottle with an au courant Stelvin
screw-cap, this inaugural release of the Divas Uncorked label
is a direct testament to the ladies' mantra of "wine savvy, not
wine snobby".
"I've always been a great lover of white wines, and I relish the opportunity to share this carefully crafted chardonnay with others," says Divas Uncorked founder Stephanie Browne. "Not only are we excited to have been able to bottle Divas' passion for all our fans, we also hope to further our mission by connecting with those who don't know us yet and helping them find their 'inner wine Diva!'"
Mendocino Wine Company's commitment to environmental and community sustainability, including its support for the local Hispanic community through activities to benefit Nuestra Casa and the Mendocino Winegrowers Foundation Agricultural Worker Scholarship Fund, positions the company as an ideal partner for Divas Uncorked. "At Mendocino Wine Company, we sustain what's best and create what's next," says partner Tim Thornhill. "We believe Divas Uncorked is both of the above."
The wine is scheduled for release at the beginning of October and the buzz around Boston has already caught on, as Legal Sea Foods' Park Plaza and Chestnut Hill locations will add Divas Uncorked Chardonnay to their wine offerings, and it will also be available at Whole Foods Market River Street in Cambridge. Fenway Park will feature the chardonnay on its wine list during Red Sox games, as well as for its many private and corporate events. It will be distributed in New England by M.S. Walker. For distribution questions, please contact Mendocino Wino Company at 1-800-362-WINE (9463).
Divas Uncorked Chardonnay was produced in the Russian River watershed of California's Mendocino County, where the river's moderating influence allows the vineyards to produce grapes that have ripe, mature varietal characteristics, while retaining crisp acidity. The wine was primarily fermented in stainless steel, to preserve fresh fruit flavors. A portion was fermented in small oak barrels contributing a vanilla complexity to the finished wine. The chardonnay is an excellent match with sauteed or lightly grilled seafood, vegetables prepared al dente, chicken dishes and spicy Thai cuisine.

It will be available for purchase this fall at many markets along the East Coast and directly through Mendocino Wine Company at www.mendocinowineco.com. Looking ahead, the Divas are considering crafting a zinfandel and a viognier to add to their label.
About Divas Uncorked, Inc.
The mission of Divas Uncorked, Inc. is to make wine more approachable
to women of all ages by breaking down the intimidating image of
the wine world. Since forming in 1998, the ten vivacious African-American
women of Divas Uncorked have met monthly at each other's homes,
pairing wine with food, exploring wine's inherent social and style
characteristics, identifying the nuances of bouquet, and discovering
the tradition of vintage. "Wine savvy, not wine snobby"is
their mantra. They take this unique approach public by offering
women a chance to improve their appreciation of and comfort around
wine through their annual "Wine, Women and.." conferences in Boston
and through educational wine events across the country throughout
the year. The Divas Uncorked Collaborative Consortium helps wineries,
distributors and retailers expand to reach new consumer markets,
specifically women and people of color. Join the Divas' network
