Gourmet Gifts from the Napa Valley
Rosemary & Bob McCormick, (no their kids are NOT named Parsley & Sage), operate a charming gourmet food and wine market located in the heart of historic downtown Napa at 1248 First Street. This "must shop" for foodies also offers an exceptional selection of gourmet food products from the wine country. Mustards, olive oils, pasta, tapenades, chocolates, salsas, coffees, teas, dozens of herbs and spices (including their own signature herb blend), and a fine selection of well priced California wines. Features include a gourmet-to-go deli with tasty fresh salads, sandwiches, cheese and pate, plus a complete coffee/tea/wine bar. Bob makes Napa's best cafe mocha! They're open daily with FREE SAMPLES and friendly service. The tiny town of Yountville in the Napa Valley was illuminated with brilliant white lights on November 24th, as Santa and his entourage paraded down Washington Street during the 12th Annual Festival of Lights. The entire town - houses, shops, restaurants, inns, and landscape - will remain lighted through New Year's Eve, and it is a breathtaking sight! As one travels down Hwy 29 Yountville suddenly appears - glistening and glowing…it doesn't look real! Turn off the highway and drive through the town - the magic holds, even up close!
Prior to the Parade and Lighting - Yountville hosted a Holiday Faire. Stores stayed open until 9:00 p.m., restaurants and wineries offered food, cider, and wine sampling. Locals and visitors lingered to enjoy the musical entertainment, dancers, artists, magicians, and a spectacular ice-carving contest!
The 2nd Annual Napa Valley Ice Art Championship was the "warm-up" competition for the 2001 Ice Art Championship. Using chainsaws and chisels, competitors transformed enormous blocks of perfectly clear ice into stunning works of art. The winner was Shannon Kelly of Knickerbockers' Catering in St. Helena! His sculpture, "Napa Valley Still Life", was a café table with a bowl of fruit. Imagine that carved of ice - it looked as if it was made of crystal! Exquisite! A big Congratulations to Shannon!!
The Town Lighting was just the opening act for Yountville. There will be a series of events throughout the month of December, including: a Pre-Release and Sale of Cosentino Winery's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a Holiday Concert by the Napa Valley Symphony, and an Angel Gala (dinner, dancing, & auctions) for the Napa Valley Museum http://www.napavalleymuseum.org/

The comments accompanying some of our contest entries are hilarious!! Here are some examples of what we received last month for our One Night at Bodega Bay Lodge contest:
"Ahhhh…I'm relaxing already…"
"So, when do we leave?? Love it…xoxo"
"I would love to win a night in Bodega Bay Lodge. It would be much better than Central Texas."
"Please choose me!!!"
"Please! Please! Oh Please!!"
"I can hardly wait!"
"I might consider taking you with me if I win!!"
Well, despite their attempts at buttering up, none of these poor folks won the prize… (it was a random drawing, you see). However, they did make us laugh - and gave us a great idea for a new contest…
Tell us why you should win the next prize, in 150 words or less. The winning story, to be selected by popular vote of FreeRun staff, will be published in January's WineCounrty.com Lifestyle News newsletter (Winning decision is final)!
