WineVision Survey

Complete the WineVision Survey and You Could Win
up to $200 Cash!
WineVision:
American Wine in the 21st Century is conducting a nationwide
wine consumption survey on behalf of the wine community. They
need to hear from wine drinkers of all sorts—frequent,
occasional or even those who rarely take a sip of the Wine Country's
finest.
Do you drink wine, even infrequently? Does your
spouse, friend or mom? If you answered yes to any of the above,
please help WineVision obtain additional responses by completing
their survey. The survey (check the scrollbar on the bottom
left of the WineVision.org
home page) already has attracted nearly 5,000 responses (making
it the largest U.S. wine consumer survey ever done!), but the
responses so far have been mostly from regular drinkers.
They are not trying to sell anything and your
name and/or email address will not be used for any purpose other
than this study. In exchange for your time you will be entered
in a drawing to win a $200.00 cash prize or one of three $100
cash prizes. You will be notified via email within 45 days if
you are one of the winners.
Thank you in advance for helping WineVision
build a bridge between the wine industry and its customers.

Sniff,
Swirl, Vote
The office of California’s Secretary of
State, which is overseeing the state’s upcoming, stranger-than-fiction
gubernatorial recall election, has announced it has approved
a last-minute addition to the ballot. Responding to a legal
challenge from numerous Zinfanatics – rabid consumers
of the state’s signature wine, Zinfandel – the Secretary
of State is permitting the candidacy of a mystery man named
the Czar of Zinfandel (COZ), whose campaign slogan apparently
is "Elect me, for I have zinned."
Spice E. Berry, leader of the last-ditch effort
to get COZ on the ballot, says, "COZ is a natural. He’s
been making great Zinfandel in the Sierra foothills for over
20 years, in the process making lots of Californians very happy.
I think we all can agree that Zinfandel is the right choice
for just about everything – burgers, barbecue, budget
deficits, you name it. COZ is a candidate everyone will rally
around, especially after we pass out big glasses of his wine
at polling places. Our message will be simple: Sniff, Swirl,
Vote."
Although the COZ’s identity has yet to be
revealed, Sacramento is buzzing with rumors that the mystery
candidate may be Jeffrey B. Meyers, longtime winemaker at Montevina
Winery in Amador County. When
reached at his spartan log cabin in the small Amador burg of
Plymouth, Meyers denied he was COZ, but said if he were, he’d
have no trouble trouncing Arnold, Cruz, Peter, Tom, or any of
the ballot’s other wacko candidates.
"Think what these people would serve at
state dinners," Meyers fumed. "If Arnold wins, it’ll
be Grüner Vetliner. Have you ever tried that stuff. Ugh!
If McClintock wins - well, obviously, it will be white and cheap.
Gray? Thin, insipid Vin Gris, naturally. And God forbid Peter
Camejo gets elected. How would you like to drink Green wine?
"I don’t know who this Czar guy is,
although I hear he’s brilliant and good-looking. The effete
white and pinko wine crowd will probably try to Cruzify him,
but they should keep in mind what the Wine Bible says: "He
who is without zin, let him hang the first chad."
VOTE EARLY! VOTE OFTEN! VOTE COZ!

WILD MUSHROOM CROSTINI
Each November, the Mendocino Wine
& Mushroom Fest, a county-wide celebration of two of Mendocino's
products - fine wine and magnificent mushrooms! Events include
winemaker dinners, cooking classes, guided mushroom walking
tours, demonstrations, exhibits, special winter lodging rates,
and featured cuisines.
This
year's Mendocino Wine & Mushroom Fest will be held November
12-24.
Here is a recipe from last year:
WILD MUSHROOM CROSTINI
Courtesy of the Joshua Grindle
Inn
Makes approximately 24 crostini
5 tablespoons olive oil, divided
2 pounds mushrooms, trimmed, brushed clean and finely chopped
1/3 cup finely diced shallots
6 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon fresh tarragon, minced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme, minced
2 cups Mendocino County dry white wine
one baguette
Heat three tablespoons of the olive oil in a large skillet set
over medium heat, and sauté mushrooms until golden, about
ten minutes. Add shallots, garlic and herbs and sauté
two minutes longer, taking care not to let the garlic brown.
Add wine, and simmer until mushrooms are tender and liquid has
thickened.
Slice baguette thinly and brush each side of the
slices using the remaining two tablespoons of olive oil. Grill
bread (or toast in oven) turning once, until toasted on both
sides.
Serve mushrooms on grilled baguette slices.
