- July Contest!
"Built in the early 1900's by one of the first wine producing families of the Napa Valley, Larkmead is today a Country Inn, preserving the atmosphere of quiet hospitality that characterizes a country house at its best. It is a charming California Victorian with architectural details that suggest a distinct Italianate flavor.
The house has the unique good fortune of having been built at a time when there were few intrusions on our privacy and peace of mind. Nestled as it is in the midst of the vineyards, Larkmead Inn recaptures a bit of that quiet time. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the ambiance of the house and grounds -- a good book by the fire in the living room or a leisurely stroll through the vineyards down Larkmead Lane to the Silverado Trail."
Check out our Contest for a chance to stay at Larkmead Inn!
The Wine Country has more to offer than fantastic wines! You will discover breathtaking scenery as you take in the views: vineyard, ocean, forest, mountain….. and golf course!
There are several world class golf courses in California's Wine Country. One of the newest, set in the Napa Valley, is Vintners Golf Club:
This championship nine-hole course, featuring three different sets of tees, was originally designed by Casey O'Callaghan and opened in 1999. The course has been redesigned by PGA Tour and Senior Tour player, Bob Boldt, to include a new set of black tees, accommodating professionals and scratch players in addition to the golfing public at large. Players of all skill levels will find this an enjoyable course.
You'll enjoy a two-hour round of golf, and no matter what your handicap there is a set of tees that will fit your needs. Golf course Superintendent, Sean Battistini, has the golf course in top shape with beautifully manicured greens. The Vintner's is recognized as having the best greens in the area.
For more information see http://www.vintnersgolfclub.com/ or for tee times please call (707) 944-1992.

Cal-Asian Seared Tuna Sandwiches
1/2 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons finely chopped green onions
2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon oriental sesame oil
4 3/4-inch-thick tuna steaks (each about 5 ounces)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
8 1/2-inch-thick slices crusty
country-style white bread
1/2 medium English hothouse cucumber, unpeeled, thinly sliced
8 radishes, thinly sliced
1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled, sliced
Flavored mayonnaise is easy to make, and it lends added appeal to any sandwich. Here, sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger and green onions give the spread an Asian flair. Mix first 5 ingredients in small bowl to blend. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
Sprinkle tuna with salt and pepper. Heat vegetable oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tuna and cook to desired doneness, about 2 minutes per side for medium-rare.
Spread mayonnaise mixture over 1 side of each bread slice. Top 4 bread slices with cucumber, radishes, then avocado, dividing equally. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Top with tuna steaks.
Place remaining bread slices, mayonnaise side down, atop tuna. Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
Makes 4 servings.
