It depends. If you're looking to save some money and really stretch your dollar, then come to Napa during the Winter. Rates are slashed in some cases 50% on lodging. Don't have to fight the tourists at wineries, and just a lot more deals in general can be found during Winter.

But...if you want to "experience" Wine Country where you revel in the beautiful vineyards, soak in the sun, etc than no time like late Spring and Summer.

I agree that March is a great time to go. Not only are hotels a lot less expensive but its less crowded and the weather is fair. To be honest I have never gone in the summer but Im not sure I would want to! Have a great time!

It depends, in my opinion. If you want the wineries, probably now through November. Harvesting happens late summer to fall if you like to be around the events that go with it, usually festivals and such, crush. If you want to go to a nice place to stay, many of the nice getaway places have specials in the winter time.

I'd avoid Napa all together and visit Sonoma County. Much less traffic and tourists...

We like to visit in March, there is usually the barrel tasting going on and the mustard is in full bloom at this time.
