There are a number of variables that come into play on your question. Most wineries are open from 10-5. If you're planning on just tastings and no tours then 5-6 tastings is probable provided that you get an early start and are avoiding high traffic areas (Silverado Trail is much quieter than Highway 29). Frankly, 5-6 tastings (each tasting has 4-6 wines to try) is more than enough. You do have to pace yourself especially if you're driving (share your tastings and drink water). If you want to take a tour (and there are some great ones out there), you're looking at a minimum of 2 hours per tour. We only had 1 day of 5 tastings and the other 2 days were at a more leisurely pace with 3 tastings a day including a tour or 2 along with other activities (spas, nice lunches, walks, drives).

My husband and I are planning to go to Napa this September for our first anniversary. We have a list of places we'd like to see...the question is, about how long should we expect to stay at each tasting? How many will we be able to visit in a day?
