We always go in March, the weather is nice and the hotels are a lot less expensive. Most sky rocket April 1st. But not just that, its a lot less crowded, no elbowing people at the counter!
For a great view and picnic tables try Pride, but be prepared its about 15 minutes a curvey narrow road, but well worth it!
I wouldnt recommend V. Sattui for wine but they do have pretty good picnic food and a large picnic area...it can get really crowded though, even in the off season. Its right across the street from Dean and Deluca

get lunch at Dean and Deluca, or Oakville Grocery in Napa. Both have great lunch items.

Honeymooning in the end of October and looking for some suggestions for picnics and wonderful-view wineries.
It is our first time here and any suggestions for dining al fresco in Napa or Sonoma would be greatly appreciated.
cheers

Thank you so much for your help and suggestions. We were actually thinking of going in October or maybe spring time. Is late October still good? I will get that "day to day guide". How is the weather in late October?

Depends on what you are looking for. June through oct are pretty busy. Jan-May tend to be a bit more low key. There really is not a bad time of year to go to Napa . We've been out there spring time, March-May(Mustard Fest), and Oct (Crush time). Spring you can run up and down Hwy 29 pretty easy, crush time you are better served to take Silverado Trail. Get a Frommers Day by Day Guide to Wine Country. Great book, with many different options on how to see the valley. Also, if you can, rent a house, try vrbo.com or craigslist.org. You'll save money on a place to stay, and by cooking a few meals on your own, you can spend $70-100 real fast for dinner, or you can spend $100 for all your meals by doing a little shopping. And last but not least, Thrifty car rental always has the cheapest rates for rentals in the area. you can make and break the reservation as often as you find a cheaper rate. sign up for the blue chip club and you'll save a bunch of time getting your car too. hope this helps. message again if you need any other info.
