I stayed there last oct. and it was fine. nothing fancy but the price was good. free breakfast, and saving over $300 on plane tickets by booking the package i'm sure it will be worth it.IP: 70.244.80.196 |

Hi Bigsemi, Just read a review of the Wine Valley Lodge on Travelocity which was not good. Will be interested in your experience. Let us know. Starting to get excited about our trip in the latter part of October.IP: 68.169.138.221 |

Travelocity has been my go to travel site for Napa. 3 nights at the Wine Valley Lodge, 2 tickets on AA, and the car is from national. All for a little over $900.IP: 70.242.112.181 |

School starts on the 18th for most of the schools in Northern California. My Mom is an administrator and already started back this past Monday. Hawkeye - The Festival Del Sole is a week long music festival that typically is every year in July. It just passed for this year (July 16 - July 25) Each night they have classical concerts at various venues throughout Napa Valley. This year performances were at Castello di Amorosa, Lincoln Theater, Napa Valley Opera House. On top of that they have winemaker luncheons and winemaker dinners and other festivities. I've attended three years in a row and am never disappointed. And the music is beautiful. There are some talented artists that are asked to play. Check out some more details on their site - http://www.festivaldelsole.com/nsf-calendar.html. I'll be sure to remind you for next year. bigsemi - where did you find "plane/hotel/car for under $1000"? Inquiring minds would like to know - MINE! Also, would love to hear what wineries you're visiting on your next visit??? IP: 68.121.220.114 |

Ahhh, so the group is still on the green side! Bigsemi, our teachers in Chattanooga started here yesterday and the students start this coming Monday. Doesn't seem like they get much time off anymore. Is there any discussion about year round school there? You could find worse places to teach than St. Helena.Cabgirl, your wrote, "Hawkeye - You should travel to Napa one of the times during Festival Del Sole. The musicians are amazing and of course, tons of events. I attended a winemaker dinner at the home of Kristen Ashe and had her line of wines. The Cabernet was soooooo good." Cabgirl, Give me more information, when, where, how much, etc. Sounds like a great time. Damombo, I know you are planning your September trip. I have started planning for our October trip. We will have daylily friends from California and Kentucky join us for part of the time. I would like to thank WineCountry.com for hosting this message board. Just wish more people would participate. If you are out there, you don't have to be experts, most of us are not. Join in and get to know us. [This message has been edited by Hawkeye (edited 08-03-2010).] IP: 68.169.138.221 |

Hey Guys,Just enjoying my summer. We head back out to Napa in Sept, then again in Oct (2 different events at V. Sattui). Finding decent rates out of Dallas was a pain. Had to go the package route, so we are not at the ideal hotel, but it is affordable so we can actually buy some wine and enjoy ourselves. $700-800 for 2 plane tickets is just stupid, when I found packages with plane/hotel and car for under $1000. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. I'm getting ready to head back to the classroom in 3 weeks, so I'm enjoying it while I can. Just a piece of advice, if you are in Napa on a Friday night, check to see if St. Helena is having a home football game. So much fun. It is the epitome of what high school sports is all about. My wife and I have gotten to know the AD and the principle at St. Helena High, they are both great people, and so were the rest of the kids/fans and players. IP: 70.242.112.181 |

I'm here! Just been a busy worker bee. Of course there's always time to wine taste! LOL I finally tasted at Girard Winery and was impressed with their tier two offerings. They also sound like they have some great events. There's a new tasting room in Yountville - Somerston. Wasn't impressed with their wines even though they have a great venue and stay open late. Can't wait till they start serving some sort of food. And maybe they'll let folks bring in their own wines! Hawkeye - You should travel to Napa one of the times during Festival Del Sole. The musicians are amazing and of course, tons of events. I attended a winemaker dinner at the home of Kristen Ashe and had her line of wines. The Cabernet was soooooo good. In October...I don't know if there's that much going on in that month but if I see something will keep you posted! Damombo - There should be a ton of events in September because Harvest will be in full swing. Might be cool to see if you could volunteer at a winery during that time. Be a great experience for the couple that's never been to Napa before... I'll keep my eyes peeled for any wineries offering the experience. IP: 68.121.220.114 |

Hey Hawkeye! Just sitting around in Texas wishing we were in Napa! We are looking forward to our September visit - I'm enjoying the planning process right now. We are bringing along two other couples - one couple hasn't been to Napa before, so it will be fun to show them around. We spend two days in Napa Valley, one in and around Healdsburg and one in and around Sonoma. As I write this, we are enjoying a bottle of Biale '08 Napa Ranches Zinfandel IP: 76.31.54.111 |

CabGirl, BigSemi, Damombo, Where are all you guys? Hasn't anyone been to wine country lately? Our next visit is the latter part of October. Have one special thing lined up, a cave dinner at Hans Fahden vineyard on the 21st. Anything else going on October 21-28 that you know of. Napa, Sonoma, or Healdsburg. Will be staying in Sonoma. I haven't been out since March and I am almost in withdrawal.IP: 68.169.138.221 |
