Hi SoCalGal.
I realize that you asked this question some time ago, but I'm new here and just saw it. If its not too late, here is what I can offer.
To answer your question, yes, there are such classes available in Napa as well as in Sonoma.
Several wineries in both areas offer tasting classes for different levels of interest and experience. A good place to find out about them is actually on the winecountry.com website. Another is to investigate specific wineries of interest- at least that way you know you will learn with wines you already are familiar with.
Depending on what your level of interest is- i.e. identifying basic elements of the wine, or understanding how terroir ( the land itself) affects the flavors in a wine, or what foods go with which wines, etc, you can participate in short classes that last a couple of hours to full weekends of wine experiences.
In Napa, Mondavi is reputed to have one of the best "beginner" classes around. In Sonoma, St. Francis has good classes.
We found that attending wine tasting events in our community was the least intimidating way to learn, primarily because we usually attended with friends.
Restaurants and wine shops frequently host wine events from the simple tastings to classes for the beginner to the expert. These are usually inexpensive ventures and may be a good gateway for you to "test the waters" before spending a lot of time and money to go to Napa.

My husband and I are not huge wine drinkers but would LOVE to take a wine tasting for beginners class or even make a weekend of it. Anything like this in Napa?
