Cab Girl,I have actually been to Saddleback Cellars a few years back, there was a gentleman in the tasting room that was incredible. He goes by Col. Bob ! He spends as much time with you as you want and is very knowledgeable. Next time I go, I am calling ahead to make sure he will be there. IP: 67.121.112.193 |

I too am wishing that Mrs. Hawkeye is doing better by now By the way our Costco had the Provenance '05 Estate Cab for $33, we have been buying it there and love it...delish !!! @Hawkeye we want to hear more from the grapevine ..... give us more please Viva el vino !!! p.s. I don't think I mentioned this before but my husband has always been leery about the 'cheaper' wine deals at Costco, so while at Hall and Provenance, he felt the need to inquire...."why are these so much cheaper at Costco than you can get here even if you were a club member, are they rejects?? " he asked... both places said exactly what I thought, it is exactly the same that they have in their tasting rooms and/or you can purchase on their website, Costco buys such huge quantities that they get enormous discounts... he (my husband) feels better now [This message has been edited by Poohh66 (edited 03-05-2011).] IP: 173.168.214.16 |

Hi Damombo,You like Jammy! I would suggest that you call or go to the website of Provenance Winery and order 6 bottles or a case of their 2005 Rutherford Estate Cab which originally sold for $85.00 now on closeout at $42.40. I doubt if they have the closeout price on the website but you can check. A real bargain. I shipped a case home. You heard it on the grapevine. Cheers. IP: 69.226.136.41 |

Cabgirl, if you really want to know about my wish list trip(s), I'm happy to post, but since they are Sonoma based I'll put them there if you want to see them.IP: 98.232.221.183 |

Oh my, I'm sorry to hear that Mrs. Hawkeye isn't feeling her best. What a shame and how frustrating for her - hopefully by now she's feeling better. We haven't really firmed up plans yet and I was waiting to hear if Hawkeye had found any places that we needed to go check out - and it sounds like that is the case! On the Napa Valley part of the trip (which will be two full days), we will probably end up going to our various clubs - use those club benefits. Our friend hasn't ever been to the area and we figure we will save her some tasting fees and just get her a good, broad overview of the area. On the Sonoma County part of the trip (which is also two full days), we will hit the 4 clubs we belong to, and then who knows? That's what we count on y'all for - super suggestions Looking forward to hearing what wolfman found and what Hawkeye is hinting at... By the way, I thought we had established that Pooh's approach was really spectacular: posting FROM the trip... but if the guys aren't up to it... IP: 96.8.187.200 |

Will hit Napa tomorrow, moved to Calistoga tonight. Damombo, save time because I will have some special suggestions for you.Cabgirl had to cancel her tasting day with us because of work (do people still have to do that?). We were able to get together for dinner at the girl and the Fig on Wednesday night. We did miss her tasting skills on our trip. Mrs. Hawkeye caught some kind of bug and has not really been able to enjoy the tastings. [This message has been edited by Hawkeye (edited 03-03-2011).] IP: 69.226.136.41 |

Cabgirl, if you were asking me, I don't have a time for my next trip yet, I'm just planning one... I am always working on some itinerary or other....a series of wish lists, if you will. Since I lost my promised vacay for this week and last, I'm putting together my consolation prize !IP: 98.232.221.183 |

So wait...what is the actual itinerary for your April trip? Share share share! Perhaps you're going to a winery the rest of us haven't been to?One of my friends just reminded me Bouchaine Winery in the Carneros region. I've never visited, but recently tasted their wines with friends. Really liked their Pinots - though I heard an early report from Hawkeye that the Pinots from Sojourn were some of the best he's ever tasted and he doesn't like Pinot! Anyone been to Bouchaine? Another winery recently came to memory again was Saddleback Cellars, but again tasted their wines (though not recently) and never been to visit. Anyone got notes on them? IP: 68.121.220.114 |

An FYI for your next visit.... Wine Country Getaways has a very interesting tool on their website which allows you to plan a trip and then print it out. You can get directions between wineries if you need them. I was just playing with it for Sonoma ( Healdsburg region), but they deal in Napa and other wine regions as well. Some of the little peg pictures are kinda close together and that can be a bit frustrating, but its nice to be able to actually build a trip stop-to-stop. They also offer a number of itinerary suggestions by different criteria like region or some by varietal...takes the guesswork out of trip planning that way!IP: 98.232.221.183 |

Damambo, Have you ever been to Oxbow Market to taste? I was looking into Mahoney Vineyards again and see that now they say that their retail sales are located at Oxbow Market ( before I couldn't figure out where they were, remember?)...wondering if there is a tasting room there or tasting bar...? That is the place that has the Albarino that I was so enamored with.IP: 98.232.221.183 |

Hi Damombo,First, you have to weather my trip, then we can take on yours. You always do such a great job with writing about your visits. I guess some of the wine people do read this BB. I received an email from a winery that I had mentioned, thanking me for my report. I liked their wine very much, so I felt I was very truthful. Keep us up to date on your itinerary and when I get back I will let you know which of my itinerary I feel worthy. You mentioned you were flying in to Oakland. From here in Tennessee, Oakland is $200.00 per person more than Sacramento. Life is very, very good. Cheers! IP: 68.169.189.111 |

Lucky you! April is such a pretty time in wine country. You should check the Sonoma County Vintners website for the events calendar to see if anyone is having special events at their wineries. Isn't that about the time that Steve Ledson has his charity thing with the baseball players?IP: 98.232.221.183 |

Instead of hijacking Hawkeye's topic on 5 fave cabs, I'll start a new one!We thought we were going to Napa/Sonoma in April, but one by one (or couple by couple), our friends backed out. All but one friend, and she is willing to go even if nobody else is being reasonable. So our on again off again plans are on, and we have even purchased plane tickets and made lodging reservations!! So all systems are a go! We are arriving at OAK on Saturday afternoon, April 16th and have through Wednesday, April 20 to wander and taste and eat and enjoy. Our friend has never been and is eager to see what all the fuss is about - should be fun!! I've sort of started putting together the itinerary, but not much more than organizing which of our clubs to go to when... figure we'll take advantage of the club perks so she doesn't have much in the way of tasting fees to worry about. We will spend two days in Napa Valley and two in the Sonoma-side valleys, as usual. To quote the Hawk "Life is good" IP: 98.198.194.134 |
