I would love to be the brave soul that tries it out! Complete with helmet and protective gear! Thank you for the lovely comments because it sure makes planning a real treat! I would love to hear if there are places that are absolutely must sees...we will mostly be staying that the Meritage Resort since part of the vacation is a business trip for my husband...so there will be some half days for him Thurs-Sat....I will have to find something to do those days on my own...Spa anyone? We are planning on 2 full days on Wine tours for sure...1 by bus and the other by bike if the weather permits...(anything is better that WI weather at this time of year!) Looks like Sunday will be spent in San Francisco...perhaps overnight. Then the rest in Napa...with a very possible trip to Sonoma as well. Still working on the details...but its a start! I am a foodie by nature so I am thrilled to check out any recommended restaurants as well! Thanks all!IP: 99.19.100.81 |

Jen was the person who mentioned bikes! Google Napa Bike Tours and there is at least one company that offers tours. We'd all love it if you'd be the brave soul who tries this and then tells us all about it IP: 98.198.194.134 |

Hi Jen, and welcome (I do love a cute WI accent!) You will have a lovely long amount of time to explore - lucky you! Definitely plan to divide your time between all of the various valleys. Will you be able to spend the night somewhere other than Napa, or will you just use it as your base everyday? Are you going to have any complete days free or just part of each day due to the conference? I've never hired a driver, but we did go on the Napa Winery Shuttle http://wineshuttle.com/ the first two times we visited, and I thought it was well worth it and a blast. Haven't ever done the bike thing, but there are places to rent bikes. Give us a better idea of your daily schedule, time for touring and tasting... We enjoy Sterling Winery. The tram ride to the tasting room and the walking tour out to the gorgeous patio with it's great views. We are club members, so we get to do the reserve tasting, and those wines are better than the regular tasting room, but the whole experience is what we enjoy. Go to their website for a discount coupon. There are many amazing restaurants to choose from. We always enjoy Celadon in downtown Napa. Bottega and Bistro Jeanty in Yountville are great. If you go to Opentable.com and get to San Francisco, then select the neighborhood "wine country", you will find a great listing and links to the restaurants' websites. I'll be back later with some other suggestions...IP: 98.198.194.134 |

Great, I'll watch for you over there. Napa is not really my best suit, so I leave this side to the experts. In the mean time, what types of wine do you like and if you do go on a tour, what are you looking for....like a lesson in winemaking or something really general about the area and the winery or...maybe you don't really know ...?[This message has been edited by yesilovewine (edited 02-21-2011).] IP: 98.232.221.183 |

Hiya, Jenpro. Welcome to the group. ( This is usually Hawkeye's bit but he's not here and I'm poaching on this board so I'll do it) I'm really just writing to say that since you have such a nice long time I hope that you will consider taking a day or two to spend in Sonoma County, too. As a matter of fact, I THINK that your visit will be during the Barrel Tasting weekends which is a huge event in the area . If you are interested in exploring Sonoma, please hop over to that board and ask away! It gets lonesome over there... Hello all! I have enjoyed using your board as a way to plan my very first trip to Wine Country (and CA for that fact!) This new WI momma is ready for her first official vacation in 3 years! I am absolutely thrilled to come to California! It looks like we could get some great advise and suggestions so I would love and appreciate any and all! We are coming March 19th to the 27th and spending the majority of our time in Napa at the Meritage Resort Napa & Vino Bello Resort for a work conference but with PLENTY of fun mixed in! We are going to spend Sunday in San Fransisco before heading to Napa and then after that it is game on! We are hoping to do at least 2 days of touring wineries/tastings and such. We don't plan on doing the driving...the bus and limo companies can do the work for us and we will enjoy that much better. We are also considering perhaps a bike tour...a little exercise thrown in with our continuous eating and drinking... I am curious to everyone's thoughts and suggestions on tours to use, wineries that are a MUST see, restaurants and any other fun that we just need to check out. We will have Monday through Saturday to check out this beautiful area and we can't wait! Thank you ahead of time for the advice! Jen IP: 99.19.100.81 |
