Thanks for looking Yes - it seems that we are never in the area when organized events are happening. Someday, when retirement comes, I think we should spend six months out there and just experience as much as is humanly possible!

Well if you can find something in Sonoma County on Wednesday, November 16 or Thursday, November 17, that'd be fabulous!

Yes, my poor state is burnin' up - it's very scary for lots of the ranchers and their livestock. If our dear citizens would stop tossing lit cigarettes out of their cars on the highways, that would be very helpful.... I know the East Coast got hammered by Irene, but I was doing my best to get her to come our way instead - with my apologies to my neighbors in Galveston who don't like hurricanes.

Hope you are going to have a fun Labor Day weekend in your new locale - I do love North Carolina (my sis-in-law is from there and has the cutest accent)

Cheers!

LOL....should I warn somebody??? :O
I have gotten some winery notices about events this fall, want me to check and see if they coordinate with your dates?
By the way, Texas seems to be burning away...hope you and yours are out of harm's way.

bummer, it's the weekend before we even get near.
We arrive in San Francisco on the 11th - leave for Napa Valley the afternoon of the 13th, spend the 14th and 15th in Napa Valley, moving to Sonoma County the evening of the 15th, spending the 16th and 17th in Sonoma County, then fly home on Friday the 18th.
I looked at the events calendar but didn't see anything happening while we are there. Oh well, we will just make our own mischief

Damombo,
Just got a notice that the Sonoma Reserve tour event that we enjoyed last spring will be offered again in November. I recall reading that you are going to be in wine country then, so here's the heads up on a fun event to try if your dates work.
You can get more specific info on the Sonoma Valley Vintner's and Growers Assn website

Hey yesilovewine - glad that you are doing well. Yep, we could sure use some of that rain and cooler temps around here. I can't remember a streak like this - so many days in a row of over 104! And no rain in sight... my poor trees!

Howdy Damambo-
We are just cleaning up after Irene here, but got through ok. No plans for any western trips for some time, but thought I'd check in to say hello and let you know we now have access with some reliability so I'll be posting on occasion.
Sure am sorry about your weather down there; know you would love some rain and cooling winds.
Voelfger,
Try Roessler Cellars in the town of Sonoma for a broad spectrum of Pinot offerings..the quality is high and they source from all over the state. You will be surprised at how good some of the more southern Pinots can be! also, in Dry Creek, head up to Matrix. That is a "Pinot House" which is part of the Wilson Artisan wineries and we found their wines to be quite good. We really are not pinot lovers, but did find these two places to have wines that we could enjoy and would purchase.

WOW - 8 days! We've never had that luxury - 4 full days is usually all we get. Which is why we cram around 7-8 into a day. Problem with that is that one's palate is usually shot by the 6th place... Which is why we now start the day with the unknowns and save our clubs or places we know we like until later in the day.

Your hotel is in Napa? There is always Oxbow to hang out in until the check in time arrives. Have some lunch, check out the olive oils, see what tasting rooms are right there next to Oxbow...

Hawkeye suggested Sojourn last year for Pinot Noir - over in Sonoma (town). We are not big Pinot lovers but we tried theirs and did enjoy it - we ordered a mixed case, but haven't received it yet. Weather here has postponed shipment of wine until at least October.

Have a productive day pouring over all the posts here! And have a great trip - we are looking forward to your trip report (hint, hint)

Cheers!

Will be flying into San Fran from Milwaukee on Friday. Hopefully get to Napa by 1pm. Won't be flying out until late on Saturday to give all of Saturday as well. That means 8 full days of tastings.

As to where we are going we are still deciding. This will only be our second time to the Valley. On our first, we visited Mondavi, Beringer, The Castle, Rubicon Estates. I really liked the Castle's Reds. If it wasn't that I ran out of my wine budget I would have bought 6 bottles of Rubicon's CASK.

For this trip, looking at 3-4 tastings a day. One day we will spend in Sonoma looking for some Pinot Noir. But right now we don't have a plan yet. My biggest dilema is where to go when we get there before we can check in. Looking for a place that we could also grab a late lunch.

I am going through all the threads and noting all the recommended wineries.

Things have been soooo slow lately... Is everyone in Napa Valley and just forgot to invite me?
What about some trip reports? Anyone just getting back with some fabulous new suggestions for the rest of us?
