Day 2 started out with an early morning wake up followed by our biggest drive of the trip. We headed into Sonoma to visit the Armstrong Redwood Reserve. It was GREAT! The weather was beautiful, cool morning - but sunny. We arrived at around 8am & all was very quiet. I forget sometimes how peaceful quiet can be...especially with an 11 yr old & an 8 year old - peace & quiet can be scarce at times! We took our time & strolled around the pathways looking at the beautiful redwoods for about 1.5 hrs.

Then it was off to our 1st winery: Merry Edwards. I just LOVE her wines & was looking forward to a good tasting. As I am a white drinker - I enjoyed their signature Sav Blanc. Wound up buying 4 bottles of that! We both enjoyed their pinot blend & one of their single vineyard pinots as well. We bought 2 bottles of each.

The tasting itself was pleasant - but as was mentioned on the board before - it was more in an office setting. I didn't mind though - as I was just happy to be tasting!

Our next stop was Sterling. This was more of a nostalgic stop as the first time we came out to Napa was for a good friend's wedding. Their reception dinner was held at Sterling. The tram ride was nice - and the self guided tour was pleasant - but would not be on my list of must do's next time around. Wines were just mediocre.

Last winery of the day was The Castle. We did the tour & that was quite interesting. It was our first tour & we enjoyed the castle & the grounds. We did a quick barrel tasting. Again - plesant - but in hindsight - probably not one of our trip highlights.

Dinner was The Calistoga Inn. We really enjoyed this! Again - great weather - so we sat outside to eat. I'm a big salad lover & I must say - I had what was probably the BEST salad I've ever had at the Calistoga Inn. It was their Spinich Waldorf salad &, in my opinion, it was INCREDIBLE!!! The spinich leaves were SO fresh & the dressing was a perfect compliment to the salad.

We stayed again at the Chablis Inn. All in all - a successful 1st day!
