You can find good Chards on the way to Napa in the town of Sonoma... just take a short detour to the town Plaza and stop at Haywood, Two Amigos and Hawkes.
If you can manage the time to do a tour, Hanzell's is reputed to be exceptional. Some folks "in the business" have recommended it to us, but we aren't that big on Chards and the tour is pricey, for us.

Carjef,

While you are at Rombauer, check out the Zinfandel. I hear it is one of the best.

Hi Gator,

The majority of the Cab houses will also make a Chardonnay or Savignon Blanc. Most of the time, Chard will not be the major wine. Some of the larger wineries along Hwy 29 will have Chard, including, Hall, Grgich Hills, Merryvale, etc. Most of these will not require an appointment. Also, most of the tasting rooms in Yountville, Hope & Grace, Cornerstone, Jessup, Girard, etc., will have excellent Chards. No appoint needed at these.

For Chardonnay - I would suggest the Carneros AVA (Etude, Bouchaine), Stony Hill (not oaky or buttery), Chateau Montelena (for the history of the Paris Tasting)

Glad to hear you enjoy Rombauer. We will be visiting there for the first time in a few weeks!

I have gotten great tips for the Zins and Cabs, but I need some suggestions for good Chardonnay wineries to visit. Really like Rombauer Chardonnay. Staying in downtown Napa and only have 2 whole days for touring. Want to see the best and have some great lunches and dinners. Need to make some tour reservations quick.
