Welcome, lifeline!

www.tripadvisor.com will be good for you to check out places to stay and restaurants. The town of Yountville is home to several upscale spa type places as well as the town of Calistoga on the north end. Calistoga would probably be more in line with the smaller, quaint, less crowded. If considering a B & B, we have stayed at the Pink Mansion in Calistoga and really enjoyed.

We are mainly whites as well. Our favorites: Cakebread (white club member)....but try the reds as well!, Merryvale (Silhouette Chard is great), Grgich Hills (Chard & Fume Blanc), V Sattui (wide white offering & terrific deli), Clos Pegase (Chard, SB), Freemark Abbey (SB, Chard, Viognier), Mumm (Sparkling), Chateau Montelena (Chard). Most of the wineries in Napa Valley will produce a Chard at least, many producing a Reisling & SB, and a few a Gewurztraminer. Last time there, Castello di Amorosa had a Gewurzt, as did Sequoia Grove.

For something different in a tasting, consider doing the Round Pond Olive Mill tour & tasting. Being vegetarians, you should love the fresh fruits & veggies they break out after the tasting for you to experiment using different olive oils. Appt needed. About 1 1/2 hrs.

As far as restaurants being closed certain nights, we have never run into that issue. There are so many great places, that I can't imagine having an issue.

Hope this helps and that you enjoy your trip. We are heading back out Labor Day week for another visit ourselves.

We are coming to Napa for the very first time for our 10 year anniversary. NO KIDS!!! i love recommendations from yall (from Texas)....here are the trip details:

1. coming Aug 6 til Aug 10 2013
2. hotel budget 300/night, prefer smaller, unique places or spa/resorts
3. one night in sonoma town
4. three nights somewhere along Napa trail
5. prefer white winery tours (sulfites in reds give my wife migraines) but definitely a couple of red tours
6. we are both vegetarians, any dining help here would help
7. walkability is not that important

Ive heard that alot of restaurants are closed on a particular night (mon, tues). Any truth to that rumor? I enjoy reading the posts on this website. It makes me realize there is a ton of stuff out there in wine country and we may need to celebrate year 11 and on out there also.

All times are ET (US)
