I am going to include this in my summary from my trip, but I wanted to mention that I ran into the wine maker and his wife (I don't know if there is more than wine maker) from Stryker during my first tasting in Sonoma. I didn't get a chance to talk to him much, but his wife was very friendly and sweet. You just never know who you will run into at these tasting rooms!IP: 174.79.103.79 |

Hi Stacy, welcome to our Boards. Most of the time I would say to jump right in, but you are in with both feet. As with Stryker, we have driven by Hawkes many, many times but don't ever remember stopping. Next week we will be stopping at Stryker for the first time and will see how time works out to maybe stop at Hawkes and at least taste the Cab. I have had the Robert Young, but none of the others. As hard as I try, I can't seem to empty my bucket list. And with the help of Boarders like you and all my other friends on here, I find more "Must taste" places all the time. I would guess that 80% of the wineries that we will visit next week will be new to us, and that is hard to do after all the trips we have taken to the area. In the past, we normally tasted at only wineries open to the public, and found ourselves going back to the same ones all the time. Now, I would guess that about 40% of our visits are by appointment, maybe more. Plus, we now try to find the small, family owned wineries. Cheers! IP: 68.169.189.111 |

Hello Hawkeye, if you want a good cab in the Alexander Valley area stop of at Hawk's winery next to the Jim Town Store, Robert Young, Del Lorimer, Mecury in downtown Geyserville, Stryker is a great place to visit and beautiful. If your in Dry Creek Sbragia's cabs are beautiful."It is about the people, place & wine!" reservations 707-322-3837. IP: 71.198.155.193 |

Hi KMJHope you have a great 20th (I think that was the one) anniversary. Did you post what wineries you decided to visit, or did I miss it. Leaving Tuesday, so will get to Stryker before you. Agree that if the critics don't like it, we probably will. Cheers! IP: 68.169.189.111 |

I am going in April and I will review it. If wine reviews are like movie reviews, I will love Stryker and so will my wife. Dont worry.IP: 72.49.168.189 |

Well ladies, when you get to be my age, you hurry and do everything as quickly as possible because your time may run out soon. When it does, I do not want to leave any regrets and anything in my bucket! We are planning to go to Stryker, and if it is not good, I will tell Mrs. Hawkeye that it was all your suggestions. If it is good, I will say, "I was lucky to find this one for us". We are spending two day in Sonoma County which is one day longer than normal. Sure hope we find some good wines. I just have to remember that the Cabs will be a different style than I am used to on the Napa side where they are normally bigger and bolder. The one exception may be Bill Williamson's Sovereign Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 at $495.00. I will try and get Bill to open this one for a taste, but don't count on it. Will raise at least one glass to all of you. Cheers.

You ain't kiddin' about Hawkeye. How does he do it??? I'm with you about Stryker...we have always had good experiences; last time was not the best as the pourers seemed like last minute stand-ins, but you can run into that anywhere. What got me about the TA thing was odors.....THAT is a problem in a tasting room! IP: 98.232.221.183 |

We've been members of their wine club for probably 6 years. Have visited there probably twice a year. Have never had a less than terrific visit - have had a variety of pourers, and some are more entertaining than other, but all nice and knowledgeable. I saw a negative review on TA and was astounded. Hope it was a fluke! We will be going again in April, so I'll let y'all know what we find. I think Hawkeye is going to try to get there in March, but I'm not positive - he's hard to keep up with, in many ways! IP: 98.198.194.134 |

I've been researching on TA a bit and see that Stryker has gotten some really lousy press there in recent days. Since I have recommended them to so many of you, I don't know quite what to say....I hope its still as fun as when we've been, but with 3 or 4 recent and strongly negative reviews I confess to being nervous. Just wanted to give y'all a "Heads up"....IP: 98.232.221.183 |
