If you're in the south end of Napa Valley, William Hill Estate winery has a beautiful picnic arbor overlooking it's vineyards. It's not far from Oakville grocery, but if you're coming from Napa, the Oxbow market on First Street is a wonderful place to pick up picnic goodies...Fatted Calf Charcuterie, Model Bakery, The Cheese Merchant, etc all have great produce. If you're up-valley, Dean & Deluca have delicious salads, sandwiches and cakes which you can eat over in Louis M. Martini's shaded garden. V. Sattui does have very nice picnic grounds. It is always crowded tho, if that is a factor. We like the Gamay Rouge there and they have a very nice deli and bakery case inside. Cheers! IP: 207.200.116.138 |

The Oak trees run all up and down Oakville Crossroad-- on both the north and south sides.Just drive around until it looks nice, and pull to the side of the road! -The Innkeepers Napa Old World Inn IP: 63.204.209.182 |

dcashel-Oakville Grocery is on the corner of Hwy 29 and Oakville Crossroad. Just get your goodies there, and park off on the side of the road on the Oakville Crossroad, between Hwy 29 and Silverado Trail. You will be able to see where this is by looking at any map of Napa. And no, I've never seen the cops (or anyone else) give anyone any grief for this-- just stay on the side of the road-- don't drive through any vineyards! -Russ Herschelmann Innkeeper Napa Old World Inn [This message has been edited by Napa Old World Inn (edited 07-28-2005).] IP: 63.204.209.182 |

Hey Russ,Above you describe your favorite picnic spot. My wife and I will be visiting in October and this sounds like a great spot for a picnic. Can you just pull your car over at any spot along the Oackville Cross Rd and have a picnic? Do the cops complain?? How do I found this spot???? This is the spot you talked about: "Getting goodies from the Oakville Grocery, putting the top down, and sitting at the side of the road on Oakville Cross Road under the Walnut trees, overlooking Opus One." Many Thanks!! IP: 168.127.0.51 |

Hands down - Chappallet had the best view. You have to bring your food and make a reservation, but I highly reccommend it. We stopped at Oakville Grocery and got all our food. Then onward to Chappallette - just amazing. We had an awesome time there. IP: 66.32.89.171 |

Don't forget Pioneer Park in Calistoga and Fuller Park in Napa!My favorite: Getting goodies from the Oakville Grocery, putting the top down, and sitting at the side of the road on Oakville Cross Road under the Walnut trees, overlooking Opus One. It doesn't get much better than that . . . -Russ Herschelmann Innkeeper Napa Old World Inn [This message has been edited by Napa Old World Inn (edited 03-21-2005).] IP: 63.204.209.182 |

The parks in St Helena - Wineries some of my favorites are Darioush, Ehler Estates, Clos Pegase, Benessere, Casa Nuestra - I would give a pass on V Sattui. Additional places to get goodies, Sunshine Market St Helena, Palisades in Calistoga Genovas and Vallergas in Napa. IP: 209.96.16.7 |

Rutherford Hill has two picnic areas, one tucked into an oak grove; another is shaded by olive trees and offers nice valley views.IP: 24.25.223.7 |

I'll admit right up front that I don't know of any parks for picnicing, but several of the wineries have picnic areas on the grounds. A few of our favorites are V. Sattui (great picnic area and deli), Domaine Chandon, Joseph Phelps, and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (the Cask 23 folks). Also, in case you forgot any picnic goodies - or even if you didn't - a stop at Oakville Grocery is a must.IP: 64.163.23.213 |

I've heard that Napa is a nice place to picnic. Can anyone suggest a good place to have a picnic in the valley?IP: 199.207.253.96 |
