In general California is much more casual in dress than New York. Even when they say formal and semi-formal you will still have a variety of folks in clothes ranging from pants to floor length dresses.

For the American Wine Classic (also known as the Napa Valley Wine Auction) - I would bring spring/summer dresses for daytime, even capri's with a pretty blouse and for night time you can't go wrong with a cocktail dress or if you prefer pants - dressy slacks with dressy top.

We will be traveling to Napa to experience the American wine classic, we will be going to both the daytime and evening events all weekend. This is new to me and since I am a wine drinker- my husband is the enthusiast, I am taking a crash course in wine tasting and etiquette. I think I will do fine with that but am very unsure about how to dress for all of these events. Has anybody been to this event before or know how people dress or what is expected. I am coming from the New York area and I am not familiar with California and what is expected at such an event(s). Please help.
