I went to Frank Family early in late Spring of this year. I enjoyed my visit, but I wouldn't say it was "fun". The staff was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. If anything, I loved the picnic area in front of the winery. It's perfectly set up for noshing on breads, cheese, salamis and wine. Skip the crowds at the popular V.Sattui and head there.

We have been to Frank Family winery and thought it was quite impersonal. However, it was a very busy day. I have been there during the week when they charged no fee for tasting and then on weekends when they charged $10.00. Want some fun? Go taste with Kandice at Robert Biale on Big Ranch Road just on the north edge of Napa. Also with one of the Milat brothers at Milat Winery. Would be interested in your observations as we will be traveling from tennessee again in October.

I write a guide on Napa and in the process of updating it. When Frank Family was in their old house tasting room, it was quite a bit of fun. They even called it "the crappiest tasting room in Napa" and the pourers would have you laughing. Now that they are in the new building I thought there were a bit stiffer, but stuff fun. However, I have been getting emails from Napa visitors who have told me that it was the stuffiest, most un-fun winery they went to. I tried to contact FF to find out if they changed their focus but they won't reply to me. I'm going back up to Napa in a month or so but curious if anyone can tell me if Frank Family is as much of a drag as my readers are telling me, or if they just happened to get them on a bad day?
