Hi jj' and welcome to the message board.
If this is the hotel I'm thinking of, it should be fine....the location is not far from a highway, so you may get road noise, but there are probably rooms that would be further from the noise if you request it.
Now just so you know, Santa Rosa is an urban environment so if you are looking for that "wine country" feel in your lodging, then you won't find that in Santa Rosa..its a regular city and the county seat, BUT if, like us, you can get your "wine country ambience" fix by touring around the countryside, then you will be fine.
That hotel is VERY near one of our favorite places to visit- Paradise Ridge. Its just up the hill and affords an amazing view of the valley below so if you can get up there on a Sunset Wednesday do it.
There is a list of wineries that offer free tastings on the sonoma tour guide website, and you should check winecountry's sonoma site and see if they have one too.
If you are comfortable sharing your lodging budget, I may be able to make other suggestions for you, though I think that your current idea will be just fine.
If you can tell us your wine preferences, we can give some suggestions on places to visit....you're talking about a good location to base from- Santa Rosa is centrally located so getting around to the different AVA's is not difficult.

If anyone could possibly suggest a good place to stay along with a few wineries to visit on a moderate budget we would both greatly appreciate it.. We have been checking out the Hilton Sonoma Valley.. Does anyone know if its any good?
