10 Best Paso Robles Wineries to Visit

By WineCountry Collective February 19, 2024

Alright, wine connoisseurs, weekend sippers, and all you “I-only-drink-on-days-that-end-with-y” folks. Buckle up, because it’s time to hit the road for Paso Robles, California, just a breezy 3.5-hour drive from either San Francisco or Los Angeles. (For the road-trip averse among you, there’s always the SLO airport just a hop and a skip away). Lucky for you, we’ve got the scoop on the top Paso Robles wineries you simply shouldn’t pass up when visiting.

But before we dive in, we do want to mention that while we love us some urban tasting rooms, we’ve kept this list to strictly those wineries out amongst the vines of Paso Robles Wine Country, because 1.) it’s always nice to taste just steps from where the grapes are grown, and 2.) hello, photo opps!

That all said, definitely make a point to try some of the tasting rooms downtown and in the Tin City neighborhood, as there are some real gems to discover. Now, let’s get back to it: here are the top 10 wineries in Paso Robles to experience.

Tablas Creek Vineyard

Rhône varieties are the name of the game at Tablas Creek Vineyard. This beloved winery in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles, founded in 1989, is the lovechild of the Perrin family from France and the Haas family from the U.S. They’re all about blending the best of both worlds, following the Châteauneuf-du-Pape tradition to create wines that are elegant, complex, fresh, and true to Paso Robles’ character. Oh, and did we mention that all 135 acres of Tablas Creek’s estate vineyards are Regenerative Organic Certified? So, don’t be surprised if you find some sheep, alpacas, and donkeys out in the vines controlling weeds and providing natural fertilization.

DAOU

DAOU isn’t your ordinary winery. Perched atop a mountain in the picturesque Adelaida District, DAOU isn’t on this list simply because of the epic views (though, WOW, those views). There’s also the Spanish Colonial winery architecture (featuring a historic bell originally cast in 1740), the acclaimed wine, and several tasting experiences to enjoy—including one that features a vineyard tour, a barrel tasting, and a food and wine pairing. Regardless of your experience of choice, we suggest snagging a spot along the property’s edge, because sipping wine while feeling on top of the world is something everyone needs in their lives.
