Janet Trefethen, and her mother-in-law, Katie, began hosting the Napa Valley Cooking Class at Trefethen in the 1970s where it continued for more than 20 years, bringing renowned chefs from around the country, including Wolfgang Puck, Thomas Keller and Charlie Trotter, to Napa to share recipes and cooking lessons with vintners in what was then, according to Janet, “a culinary desert”. Today, Trefethen’s expansive gardens boast everything from fava beans, blackberries and edible flowers to tomatoes, corn and 12 varieties of peppers. With Winery Chef Chris Kennedy and a portfolio of focused, elegant wines, the family is excited to offer experiences that highlight the estate from the garden to the glass.
Upon arrival, guests choose from four distinct flights—Essentials, Small Lots, and All Reds. Each flight includes a taste of five different wines, collectively reflecting the diversity of the Trefethen portfolio. RESERVE TASTING AT THE VILLA
This former Trefethen family residence, built in the early 1900s, is a fine example of the Arts and Crafts Movement in California. Surrounded by gorgeous gardens, the Villa is now home to Trefethen’s Reserve Tasting experience. After checking in at the Historic Winery, guests are escorted to the Villa for this tasting of limited-production wines, including our award-winning Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The inclusion of a charcuterie board with cured meats, local cheeses, and our own estate-grown preserves provides a delightful experience of balanced flavors, enhancing the enjoyment of these special wines.

TWILIGHT AT TREFETHEN
Currently listed on our site: The evenings are spectacular in the Napa Valley, and Twilight at Trefethen is perfect for those who are looking to celebrate a special occasion or wish to indulge in a unique wine country experience. Guests will enjoy a short tour followed by a curated tasting of five of our finest wines paired with seasonal share plates featuring estate-grown produce and crafted by Winery Chef Chris Kennedy. Limited to 12 guests per seating. Offered every Thursday and Friday evening (other nights upon request).

This fully immersive and private experience features our Legacy Collection wines. Hosted by certified sommeliers, guests will be greeted at the Historic Winery and taken on a brief tour of the winery before being guided through expansive gardens to the Villa, which previously served as the Trefethen family home. A sample menu features Katie’s Acre Chardonnay enjoyed with Classic Caviar Service for Two, and The Cowgirl and Pilot Merlot paired with California Lamb Loin with Roasted Baby Carrots, Cumin Spiked Yogurt, and Carrot Top Chimichurri. A rare vertical offering of HāLo Cabernet Sauvignon is complemented by Dry Aged Beef Rib Eye with Puffed Bread and White Cheddar Mousse. This experience lasts two hours and is offered weekly on Fridays at 1 pm.
