Have Toque, Will Travel

After a solid run cooking under his own roof, so to speak, Peter Halikas of Napa's recently shuttered NV restaurant has taken over the top toque position at Brix. Halikas, who did double duty as owner and executive chef at NV, was given the green light to take his whole team to his new digs at Brix, which should make for a smooth transition and welcome new home for the chef’s former employees.

Downtown Napa's NV was a favorite among locals for its stylish lounge, adventurous cocktails and late hours: It was one of the only spots to score both food and drink until 2am on weekends, a rarity in wine country. Needless to say, Halikas’ emphasis will be more on cooking than nightlife in his new role at Yountville’s Brix, which has been a destination dining spot in the valley for over a decade.

Halikas has plans to bring back some of the spot's signature dishes and emphasize a garden-to-plate take on fresh ingredients. The changes should inject some new life into a restaurant that’s ready for a change of toques.
