It’s peak season for mushrooms and there are two festivals coming up featuring this earthy, delicious funghi. Visit Sonoma County or Napa Valley for a taste and inside look of the edible mushroom and wine pairings.

Hands on Healdsburg  (January 10th – February 28th), is a two-month long extravaganza of activities in the town of Healdsburg, Sonoma Wine Country. Several events will feature seminars that include a hands-on mushroom foraging excursion in the woods, cooking demonstration, and wine and food pairings. See below.

Sunday, January 11th – Wild Mushroom Foray, Cooking Class & Brunch
9:30am – 2:0pm; $120 per person, includes four-course lunch and wine
In addition to wine, Sonoma County is well known for being an edible wild mushroom region. Learn everything you have ever wanted to know about mushrooms – how to identify ones you can eat, the types of tress and terrain to look for, safety measures and how to cook with them. Chef, preservist & forager Elissa Rubin-Mahon will lead a group to the beautiful hills above Healdsburg for mushroom foraging and then have a cooking demonstration focused on storing, handling and cooking with a variety of fresh and dry wild mushrooms. Then sit down and relax with a four-course mushroom lunch served with wonderful local wines and DeVoto Apple Cider.

This same class will repeat on February 22, 2014 and TBD date in March. Please note: The class on Saturday, January 10th is already sold out!  Visit Healdsburg Chamber for more Hands on Healdsburg events.
